Sandese aate hain

Posted on: November 5, 2008

I have noticed that every decade we get one iconic “chitthi” song that moves the listeners. In 1977, it was ” daakiyaadaak laaya” and in 1986 it was “Chitthi aayi hai aayi hai chitthi aayi hai”.

I have discussed both these songs in this blog.

The iconc “chitthi” song of 1990s came along in 1997 when “Border” was released. Not to be confused with the Australian cricketer, “Border” was a war movie, and it had some memorable songs. The “chitthi” song in this movie was ” sandeshe aate hain, hamen tadpaate hain”. This song caught the imagination and pulled te heart strings of the public in the same way as the earlier “chitti aayi hai ” song from “Naam”.

Sung by Sonu Niam and Roop Kumar rathod, this song was written by Javed Akhtar and music was by Anu Malik. Javed Akhtar and Anu malik both were chips of the old block. Javed Akhtar, earlier part of the Salim Javed duo of script writers, was the son of Jaan Nissar Akhtar, whereas Anu Malik was the son of Sardar Malik.

When I go through the lyrics of this song and compare it with the lyrics of “Chitthi aayi hai” lyrics penned by Anand Bakshi, I cannot help but feel that Javed Akhtar definitely drew inspiration for his lyrics from the Anand Bakshi lyrics. Personally I like the Anand Bakshi lyrics more. But there is no doubt that this “Border” song is also nearly as good as the “Naam ” song, and moreover the inspiration is subtle, and not blatant. And this song is just as wonderful to listen to. And that is what matters to me as a listener of Bollywood songs.

Song-Sandese aate hain (Border) (1997) Singers-Sonu Nigam, Roop Kumar Rathod, Lyrics- Javed Akhtar, Music-Anu Malik

Lyrics
o o o o
sandese aate hain hamen tadpaate hain
jo chitthi aati hai wo poochhe jaati hai
ke ghar kab aaoge
ke ghar kab aaoge likho kab aaoge
ke tum bin ye ghar soonaa soonaa hai
sandese aate hain hamen tadpaate hain
jo chitthi aati hai wo poochhe jaati hai
ke ghar kab aaoge
ke ghar kab aaoge likho kab aaoge
ke tum bin ye ghar soonaa soonaa hai

kisi dilwaali ne kisi matwaali ne
hamen khat likhaa hai ye hamse poochhaa hai
ke tum bin ye dil soonaa soonaa hai
sandese aate hain hamen tadpaate hain
jo chitthi aati hai wo poochhe jaati hai
ke ghar kab aaoge
ke ghar kab aaoge likho kab aaoge
ke tum bin ye ghar soonaa soonaa hai

muhabbat waalon ne hamaare yaaron ne
hamen ye likhaa hai ke hamse puuchhaa hai
hamaare gaanvon ne aam ki chhaanvon ne
puraane peepal ne barste baadal ne
khet khalihaanon ne hare maidaanon ne
basanti melon ne jhoomti belon ne
lachakte jhoolon ne dahakte phoolon ne
chatakti kaliyon ne
aur poochhaa hai gaanv ki galiyon ne
ke ghar kab aaoge
ke ghar kab aaoge likho kab aaoge
ke tum bin gaanv soonaa soonaa hai
sandese aate hain hamen tadpaate hain
jo chitthi aati hai wo poochhe jaati hai
ke ghar kab aaoge
ke ghar kab aaoge likho kab aaoge
ke tum bin ye ghar soonaa soonaa hai
ho o o o

kabhi ek mamtaa ki pyaar ki Gangaa ki
jo chitthi aati hai saath wo laati hai
mere din bachapan ke khel wo aangan ke
wo saayaa aanchal kaa wo teekaa kaajal kaa
wo lori raaton mein wo narmi haathon mein
wo chaahat aankhon mein wo chintaa baaton mein
bigadnaa oopar se muhabbat andar se
kare wo devi maan
yahi har khet mein poochhe meri maan
ke ghar kab aaoge
ke ghar kab aaoge
ke tum bin aangan soonaa soonaa hai

ai gujarne waali hawaa bataa
meraa itnaa kaam karegi kyaa
mere gaanv jaa mere doston ko salaam de
mere gaanv mein hai jo vo gali
jahaan rahti hai meri dilrubaa
use mere pyaar kaa jaam de
use mere pyaar kaa jaam de
wahin thodi door hai ghar meraa
mere ghar mein hai meri boodhi maan
meri maan ke pairon ko chhoo ke tu use uske bete kaa naam de

ai gujarne waali hawaa zaraa
mere doston meri dilarubaa meri maan ko meraa payaam de
unhen jaa ke tu ye payaam de

main waapas aaungaa
main waapas aaungaa phir apne gaanv mein

This song has special personal significance for me. Its a tribute to all our brave soldiers who have to be away from home for long periods. Some of them are in remote places not connected by phone or internet. Letters from their loved ones are the greatest inspiration for them. Your letters give them hope during tough times.

So anyone who has friends or family in the forces do write to them in the old fashioned way. They need your letters.

this song really touches ma heart as this sng is a tribute to those brave soldiers who lost their lives and who are struggling in the cold region to save our country, save our state…SAVE YOU…

This song proably i would dedicate to ma dad as he’s in army…
