atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Arre ja re hat natkhat

Posted on: March 10, 2009

As Holi songs go, this is the second oldest of all well known Bollywood Holi songs. This song from “Navrang” is exactly 50 years old by now.

The hard work and attention to detail that this song received is just mind boggling. The lyrics by Bharat Vyas are just wonderful. And the music of C Ramchandra was created with great care. One can notice elements of classical music as well as Gujrati folk music in this song.

Asha Bhonsle, who does bulk of the singing, has done an amazing job. She as well as Mahendra Kapoor have done very well in a song that is not easy to sing by any means.

And what about the picturisation ? I have always said that Sandhya, on whom this song is picturised never got an easy song. She was always required to multi task in her songs. And that is the case in this song as well. One is amazed that a picturisation like this could be achieved 50 years ago when technology was far more primitive than what it is today. Not just Sandhya, even an elephant is seen dancing in synchronisation with Sandhya.

This is a mind blowing Holi song. No doubt about that.

Song-Arre ja re hat natkhat (Navrang) (1958) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, C Ramchandra, Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics-Bharat Vyas, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics

dhaagin dhinak dhin
dhaagin dhinak dhin
dhaagin dhinak dhin

atak-atak jhatpat panghat par
chatak matak ik naar naveli
gori gori gwaalan ki chhori chali
chori chori mukh mori mori muskaaye albeli
kankari gale mein maari kankari kanhaiyaa ne
pakri baanh aur ki atakheli
bhari pichkaari maari
sa ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra
bholi panihaari boli

sa ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra
are jaa re hat natkhat
naa chhoo re meraa ghoonghat
palat ke doongi aaj tujhe gaali re
are jaa re hat natkhat
naa chhoo re meraa ghoonghat
palat ke doongi aaj tujhe gaali re
mujhe samjho na tum bholi bhaali re

sa ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra
aayaa holi kaa tyohaar
ude rang kii bauchhaar
tu hai naar nakhredaar matwaali re
aaj meethi lage hai teri gaali re

o
haan haan haan
aa
ho
tak tak naa maar pichkaari ki dhaar
ho
tak tak naa maar pichkaari ki dhaar
komal badan sah sake naa ye maar
tu hai anaadi badaa hi ganwaar
kajre mein toone abeer diyaa daar
teri jhakjhori se baaz aayi hori se
chor teri chori niraali re
mujhe samjho na tum bholi bhaali re

are jaa re hat natkhat
naa chhoo re meraa ghoonghat
palat ke doongi aaj tujhe gaali re
mujhe samjho na tum bholi bhaali re

ho
dharti hai laal aaj ambar hai laal
ho
dharti hai laal aaj ambar hai laal
udne de gori gaalon kaa gulaal
mat laaj kaa aaj ghoonghat nikaal
de dil ki dhadkan pe dhinak dhinak taal
jhaanjh baje shankh baje
sang mein mridang baje
ang mein umang khushiyaali re
aaj meethi lage hai teri gaali re

are jaa re hat natkhat
naa chhoo re meraa ghoonghat
palat ke doongi aaj tujhe gaali re
mujhe samjho na tum bholi bhaali re

What a superb song this is.
Sandhya has done a brilliant job here – and the picturisation is just superb. That scene with the elephant has got to be etched on any viewers’s mind, not to mention the fact (front and back) scene.
