atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Tumhe main agar apna saathi banaa loon

Posted on: March 10, 2009

“Shatranj” (1968) was a movie that flopped at the box office, even though it has Jubilee Kumar (Rajendra Kumar) in the lead role alongwith Waheeda Rahman.

The reasons were not far to seek. The public choices in movies as well as music was undergoing a metamorphosis those days and those massive changes took its toll on many actors, singers and music directors.

The failure of the movie affected the popularity of the songs of this movie as well. Even otherwise, 1968 was the biggest year for Bollywood music in their enire history, so much so that I call this year the titanium year in the history of Bollywood music.

On their own merit, the songs from this movie were nice, even if they were buried under the glut of many other outstanding songs that came into circulation that year.

S H Bihari wrote the song and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music of this song. Asha Bhonsle and Rafi sang this duet which was picurised on the lead pair of Rajendra Kumar and waheeda Rahman.

Song-Tumhe main agar apnaa saathi banaa loon (Shatranj) (1968) Singers- Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, Lyrics-S H Bihari, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

tumhen main agar apnaa saathi banaa loon
bataa do meraasaath doge kahaan tak
zameen se jahaan aasmaan mil rahaa hai
na chhodenge daaman tumhaaraa wahaan tak
tumhen main agar apnaa saathi banaa loon
bataa do meraa saath doge kahaan tak
zameen se jahaan aasmaan mil rahaa hai
na chhodenge daaman tumhaaraa wahaan tak

yahaan har qadam par nayi dilaqashin hai
kahaan tak tumhaaraa bharosaa karoon main
yahaan har qadam par nayi dilaqashin hai
kahaan tak tumhaaraa bharosaa karoon main
duaa hai ke benoor ho jaayen aankhen
kisi aur ki jo tamannaa karoon main
tumhen main agar apnaa saathi banaa loon
bataa do meraa saath doge kahaan tak
zameen se jahaan aasmaan mil rahaa hai
na chhodenge daaman tumhaaraa wahaan tak
aaa aaa

salaamat hain jab tak ye zulfon ke saaye
to phir kisko jannat ka armaan hogaa
salaamat hain jab tak ye zulfon ke saaye
to phir kisko jannat ka armaan hogaa
tumhaare hi qadmon mein marnaa huaa
to ye marnaa mujhe kitnaa aasaan hogaa
tumhen main agar apnaa saathi banaa loon
bataa do meraa saath doge kahaan tak
zameen se jahaan aasmaan mil rahaa hai
na chhodenge daaman tumhaaraa wahaan tak
aaa aaa lalala

Like you say, not a bad song in its own right but in a period when there were so many good songs this one just got lost in the crowd, I guess.
