Hai kali kali ke lab par

Posted on: March 27, 2009

Talat Mehmood was trying his hands on acting in addition to playback singing in 1950s. His singing career suffered as a result. What is more, sometimes the music directors in movies where he acted would contemplate using the voice of some other singer for Talat Mehmood. That way, Talat Mehmood sometimes found himself in the same boat as Kishore Kumar.

I am not sure if Talat Mehmood actually ended up having to lip sync in the voice of Rafi. Perhaps there may be a few such occassions.

“Lala Rukh” (1958) was one movie where Talat Mehmood was the hero and it was actually contemplated to use Rafi’s voice for Talat Mahmood. The song was “hai kalil kali ke lab par”. But when it was the time for picturisation, the song ended up getting picturised on a small time actor called Sadiq Ali.

Song-Hai kali kali ke lab par (Lala Rukh) (1958) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi, MD-Khayyam

Lyrics

hai kali kali ke lab par, tere husn kaa fasaanaa
mere gulsitaan kaa sab kuchh, teraa sirf muskuraanaa
hai kali kali ke lab par, tere husn kaa fasaanaa
mere gulsitaan kaa sab kuchh, teraa sirf muskuraanaa
hai kali kali ke lab par, tere husn kaa fasaanaa

ye khule khule se gesu, uthe jaise badliyaan si,
ye jhuki jhuki nigaahen, gire jaise bijliyaan si
tere naachte kadam mein hai bahaar ka khazaanaa
hai kali kali ke lab par, tere husn kaa fasaanaa
mere gulsitaan kaa sab kuchh, teraa sirf muskuraanaa
hai kali kali ke lab par, tere husn kaa fasaanaa

tera jhoomnaa machalnaa, jaise zar badal badal ke
mera dil dhadak rahaa hai, tu lachak sambhal sambhalke
kahin ruk na jaaye zaalim is mod par zamaanaa
hai kali kali ke lab par, tere husn kaa fasaanaa
mere gulsitaan kaa sab kuchh, teraa sirf muskuraanaa
hai kali kali ke lab par, tere husn kaa fasaanaa
