Recently, I discovered a wonderful movie called “Tamasha” (1952). By the looks of its songs, the movie appears to be a superb comedy movie. In fact, it appears to me to be a fore runner of “Miss Mary” (1956).
Meena Kumari, who looked so young and pretty in “Miss Mary” (1956) was four years younger and prettier here. This movie also had a young Dev Anand, which makes for such a refreshing change from the so called “young at heart” Dev saab that one had to watch in 1960s and 70s and 80s.
Here is a nice song from “Tamasha”. It is sung by Lata and picturised on Meena Kumari. Bharat Vyas is the lyricist. Manna Dey is the music director. It is the third song from this movie that I am posting here, and all these songs were composed by Manna Dey. What a fine debut he made as a music director.
Song-Bhool sake na ham tumhen(Tamasha) (1952)Singer- Lata, Lyrics-Bharat Vyas, MD-Manna Dey
Lyrics
kyun ankhiyaan bhar aayin
kya phir koyi yaad aaya
kyun ankhiyaan bhar aayin
bhool sake na ham tumhen
aur tum to jaake bhool gaye
bhool sake na ham tumhen
aur tum to jaake bhool gaye
ro ro ke kahta hai dil
kyun dil ko lagaake bhool gaye
bhool sake na ham tumhen
bewafa ye kya kiya
bewafa ye kya kiya
dil be badle gham diya
muskuraayi thi ghadi bhar
raat din ab roun piyaa
ek palak chanda mere
kyun jhalak dikha ke bhool gaye
bhool sake na ham tumhen
aur tum to jaake bhool gaye
bhool sake na ham tumhen
kaun si thi bairan ghadi
wo jabke tujhse uljhe nayan
kaun si thi bairan ghadi
wo jabke tujhse uljhe nayan
sukh ke meethe jhoole me rumjhum
jhoom utha tha paagal sa man
din sunahre raaten rupahli
tum mile main huyi magan
aankh khuli to maine dekha
dekha tha ek jhootha sapan
sapnon ke sansaar me
mera man bharmaake bhool gaye
bhool sake na ham tumhen
aur tum to jaake bhool gaye
bhool sake na ham tumhen
