Look what song I have stumbled upon today ! This movie is called “Jhoola” (1941). It is as old a movie as any, and surprisingly, the quality of audio and video of this song is quite good.

As far as Bollywood music lovers are concerned, most of them like songs that are “light” in nature, rather than the heavy duty stuff (viz classical music based). But there are classical music based songs that are so nicely created that one loves to listen to such songs.

There are a few people who say that “Shabaab” (1954) was one where Naushad gave his best music. I hope the people who hold this opinion are aware that Naushad was the music director of movies like “Baiju Baawra”, Mughal e Azam” etc as well. The movie “Dard” (1947) was a movie full of nice songs. The most popular song from this movie was Afsana likh rahi hoon(Dard)(1947),which was sung by Uma Devi (later known as Tuntun).

When separated relatives “inadvertently” meet again in Bollywood movies, background music goes on an overdrive. And the body language of the separated relatives show that they are trying to recognise each other, but without success. In some cases, a background song also gets played on this matter.

I keep stumbling upon forgotten gems almost on a daily basis, and look what I have unearthed here ! This song is from a movie called “Biraadari” (1966). I am sure most people, including me , are aware of “Baraadari” rather than “Biraadari”.

I thought that Suraiyya’s career as an actor-singer was over in 1950s, but it seems that a few of her movies were released in 1960s as well.
