Paan khaaye sainyaa hamaaro

Posted on: October 25, 2009

I notice that I have posted only one song from “Teesri Kasam” (1966) so far. This movie is a goldmine of songs that have gone on to become classics.

This story was based on the background of Bihar-Eastern UP. And the songs are very much based on the folk music of that area. None of the people involved in creating this movie and its songs were from that region, still they created a lovely movie on that background.

The songs of this movie are quite remarkable. I have earlier posted the iconic “chalat musaafir moh liya re” from this movie. Here is another equally iconic song from this movie. It is “paan khaaye sainyya hamaaro”. Asha Bhonsle sings this song with gusto and Waheeda Rehman dances in this song in the dancing style of that region with gusto. Shailendra, the maker of this movie, wrote the lovely lyrics and Shankar Jaikishan came up with the music.

This is a wonderful song to listen to and watch.

Song-Paan khaaye saiyaan hamaaro (Teesri Kasam) (1966) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

paan khaayen sainyaa hamaaro
saanwli sooratiyaa honth laal-laal
haay-haay malmal kaa kurtaa
malmal ke kurte pe chheent laal-laal
paan khaaye sainyaa hamaaro

hamne mangaayi surmedaani
le aayaa zaalim Banaaras kaa zardaa
hamne mangaayi surmedaani
le aayaa zaalim Banaaras kaa zardaa
aa aa
apni hi duniyaa mein khoyaa rahe wo
hamre dil ki na poochhe bedardaa
poochhe bedardaa
paan khaaye sainyaa hamaaro
hoy-hoy
saanwli sooratiyaa honth laal-laal
haay-haay malmal kaa kurtaa
hahaha
malmal ke kurte pe chheent laal-laal
paan khaaye sainyaa hamaaro

bagiyaa gun-gun paayal chhun-chhun
chupke se aayi hai rut matwaali
bagiyaa gun-gun paayal chhun-chhun
chupke se aayi hai rut matwaali
aa aa
khil gayin kaliyaan duniyaa jaane
lekin na jaane bagiyaa kaa maali
bagiyaa kaa maali
paan khaaye sainyaa hamaaro
hoy-hoy
saanwli sooratiyaa honth laal-laal
haay-haay malmal kaa kurtaa
malmal ke kurte pe chheent laal-laal
paan khaaye sainyaa hamaaro

khaa ke gilori shaam se oonghe
so jaaye wo diyaa-baati se pahle
khaa ke gilori shaam se oonghe
so jaaye wo diyaa-baati se pahle
haa aa
aangan-ataari mein ghabraayi doloon
chori ke dar se dil moraa dahle
dil moraa dahle
paan khaaye sainyaa hamaaro
saanwli sooratiyaa honth laal-laal
haay-haay malmal kaa kurtaa
hahaha
malmal ke kurte pe chheent laal-laal
paan khaaye sainyaa hamaaro
