atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Gudiya hamse roothi rahogi

Posted on: January 7, 2010

While watching old movie songs, sometimes we come across kids with names sounding familiar to present day fans. And they tend to believe that these kids are the same TV/ movie personality they know. But that is not always the case.

For example, the iconic song “Nanha Munna Rahi hoon” from “Son of India” (1962) was picturised on a kid called Sajid Khan. As soon as fans heard the name Sajid Khan, they immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was the same Sajid Khan who is a TV presenter these days. But this Sajid Khan of “Nanaa Munna Raahi hoon” fame is a different ( older) person.

Similar is the case with Baby Farida. She was a frequent face in Bollywood movies of 1960s. Hearing the name Farida, many “experts” tell us very knowledgeably that she grew up to become Farida Jalal. No she did not. Baby Farida was not seen in movies much after she grew up. It is only recently that she has reappeared again in the recent movie “Three Idiots” (2010) playing the role of a mother.

Baby Farida had figured in “Dosti” (1964) when she was about 10 years of age. Here is a song from this movie that is picturised on her and Uma Raju (playing her governess). “Dosti ” had superb songs sung by Rafi. This song was sung by Lata and this song was just as outstanding. Like the other songs of this movie, this song too has gone on to become memorable and immortal.

This song is written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and its music direction is by Laxmikant Pyarelal. Laxmikant Pyarelal in fact went on to win the Filmfare award for best music direction for this movie.

Song-Gudiya hamse roothi rahogi (Dosti) (1964) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

gudiyaa
hamse roothi rahogi
kab tak na hansogi
dekho ji kiran si lahraayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi
dekho ji kiran si lahraayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi
gudiyaa
hamse roothi rahogi
kab tak na hansogi
dekho ji kiran si lahraayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi
dekho ji kiran si laharaayi

gudiyaa

jhuki-jhuki palkon mein aa ke
dekho gupchup aankhon se jhaanke
tumhaari hansi
gupchup aankhon se jhaanke
jhuki-jhuki palkon mein aa ke
dekho gupchup aankhon se jhaanke
tumhaari hansi
gupchup aankhon se jhaanke
phir bhi
ankhiyaan band karogi
kab tak na hansogi
dekho ji kiran si lahraayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi
dekho ji kiran si lahraayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi
gudiyaa

abhi-abhi aankhon se chhalke
abhi kuchh-kuchh honthon pe jhalke
tumhaari hansi
kuchh-kuchh honthon pe jhalke
abhi-abhi aankhon se chhalke
abhi kuchh-kuchh honthon pe jhalke
tumhaari hansi
kuchh-kuchh honthon pe jhalke
phir bhi
mukh pe haath dharogi
kab tak na hansogi
dekho ji kiran si lahraayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi
dekho ji kiran si lahraayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi
gudiyaa
hamse roothi rahogi
kab tak na hansogi
dekho ji kiran si laharaayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi
dekho ji kiran si laharaayi
aayi re aayi re hansi aayi

Thanks for posting this lovely song, I had totally forgotten about it. Now I need to watch the movie again…

Even I had forgotten to post it earlier.

It helped enormously in my effort to sort out all the Baby Faridas :)

And your post on artists identification helped me post this song which had somehow escaped being posted earlier.

Lovely song. Very cute picturisation too.
Lata’s voice is so sweet in this song.

Is there a link to get the meaning of this song.

I need mp3 song “Phir tere shehar mein lutne ko” by mohammad Rafi. So please give me link if u know.
Thanks

What a lovely song, evoking so many childhood memories! By the way the lady singing the song is not the mother but the governess, who if my memory serves me right, is Farida’s brother’s love interest. The brother is played by Sanjay (Khan).

You are right. Even I have seen this movie, but I had forgotten this detail.
