“Dholak” (1950) was a movie that is not remembered much, but I have discovered that this movie was one of the biggest musical blockbuster movies of all times.
I have posted five songs from this movie. But this movie had many more nice songs remaining to be posted. Raja has reminded me about these songs and he has kindly provided me with the linksof these songs too.
Here is one of these songs from “Dholak” (1950). It is a wonderful fun song which is sung by Satish Batra, Shamshad Begam and Rafi. The song is picturised as a stage song where college students perform this song in a function. I can recognise Ajit and Meena Shorey among the actors who lip sync in the voices of Rafi and Shamshad Begam. Can someone identify the actor who sings in the voice of Satish Batra ?
The song is written by Aziz Kashmiri and its music is composed by Shyam Sundar. I must say that this is a delightful song to listen and to watch.

The actor singing in Batra’s voice is MAJNU.He was usually seen along with I.S.Johar(as in Ek thi ladki and later its copy Hum sab chor hai,to name a few).Incidentally,in Ek thi ladki,the Heroine was Meena Shorey.

Few of the dance steps given to Meena Shorey were quite ahead of that time.

The first time I heard this song/saw the video I feel madly in love with it. Isn’t it just a wonderful song that lifts your spirits with its light-heartedness ?
Meena Shorey is so lively, she is my type of girl.
Easily one of my favourites. Ajit is also very good fun here. Not only does he look very young but he suits Meena very well. The whole atmosphere is very good – typical college-leaving song.
Am surprised this movie was not that well-known. It has lovely songs. Maybe the taste then was more Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Nargis, Ashok Kumar type.
