atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Chhoti si kahaani se baarishon ke paani se

Posted on: June 30, 2010

Most of the songs discussed in this blog are from 1970s and earlier. By 1980s, deterioration in the quality of Bollywood songs had begun and the sun of the golden era of Bollywood music was on the verge of setting.

But even in 1980s and later, sometimes we were treated to songs that were reminiscent to the past glory days. Not surprisingly, most of these songs were created by slatwarts of the past.

Here is one such song. This song is from “Ijaazat” (1987). It was an off beat movie starring Rekha and Naseeruddin Shah and it was based on a Bangla novel. The movie was critically acclaimed, but commercial success eluded this film, as is to be expected with most off beat Bollywood movies.

This song is a superb song which I may have heard at that time in passing, but I did not take much notice of it at that time, because I had lost track of Bollywood movies and lost interest and hope in their music.

I rediscovered this song again, thanks to a long pendin farmaish for this song by Mr Ashwani Sharma.

Here is this song which is the “movie opening song” of this film. This song plays as the credits roll in on the screen. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. R D Burman is the music director, and Gulzar is the lyricist. This combination of Gulzar and R D Burman have given us some memorable songs, and this song belongs right up there with the best that their collaboration has produced.

The movie version of this song is brief and curtailed. I have included the movie version as well as the complete audio version of this song here. Enjoy this wonderful gem !

lala
lalala
chhoti si kahaani se,
baarishon ke paani se
saari waadi bhar gayi
lalalalala
chhoti si kahaani se,
baarishon ke paani se
saari waadi bhar gayi
lalalalala
na jaane kyun,
dil bhar gayaa
na jaane kyun
aankh bhar gayi

shaakhon pe patte the
patton mein boonden thin
boondon mein paani thaa
paani mein aansoo the
aaa aaa aaa
shaakhon pe patte the
patton mein boonden thin
boondon mein paani thaa
paani mein aansoo the
aaa aaa aaa

chhoti si kahaani se,
baarishon ke paani se
saari waadi bhar gayi
lalalalalala
na jaane kyun,
dil bhar gayaa
na jaane kyun
aankh bhar gayi

dil mein gile bhi the
pahle mile bhi the
mil ke paraaye the
do hamsaaye the
aaaa aaa aaa
dil mein gile bhi the
pahle mile bhi the
mil ke paraaye the
do hamsaaye the
aaaa aaa aaa
lalalala
chhoti si kahaani se,
baarishon ke paani se
saari waadi bhar gayi
lalalalalala
na jaane kyun,
dil bhar gayaa
na jaane kyun
aankh bhar gayi

rukti hai thamti hai
kabhi barasti hai
baadal pe paanv rakh ke
baarish par chalti hai
aaa aaa aaa
rukti hai thamti hai
kabhi barasti hai
baadal pe paanv rakh ke
baarish par chalti hai
aaa aaa aaa

lalalalalala
chhoti si kahaani se,
baarishon ke paani se

Hi, it is indeed a wonderful song but pales in comparison to the other two gems in the movie. The all time classic, Mera Kuch Saaman and the sensuous, Qatra Qatra.

I would be glad if you post them someday

I was going to comment the same thing. Its a beautiful movie with a unique style of storytelling which gulzar came up. Also there is a fourth soulful song called “khali haath shaam aayi hai” though katra katra and mera kuch saaman are personal all time favorites

and just so you know atul, I have been up to date with your blog and just simply didn’t comment due to lack of time. And really hope oneday you give up your stubborness against the newer songs. Some of them are as soul stirring as the old ones
