I had never heard of this movie called “Chaalis din” but for a farmaish of a song from this movie. This movie was released in 1959 and it had Premnath and Shakeela in lead roles.

Lata was Madan Mohan’s female singer of choice. But Madan Mohan has created some nice songs with other female singers as well.

Most well known qawwalis in Hindi movies are from 1950s and 1960s. But the earliest hit qawwali is older than that.

When I was a kid, I disliked listening to old songs, especially the songs in Radio Ceylon’s “Puraani filmon ke geet” which was broadcast from 7-30 AM to 8-AM. I in fact found the singing style of these old songs quite funny. And I would find the singing of K L Saigal the funniest of [...]

By 1980s, the lyrics of Hindi movie songs had become much more functional and basic. In many cases, the songs of that era virtually dispensed with the need of any meaningful lyrics and managed with gibberish passing for lyrics.

I am barely aware of this movie called “Dr Vidya” (1962) and I have become aware of the songs of this movie thanks to the farmaishes of songs for this movie.
