When one talks of the movie “Nadiya Ke Paar”, one normally thinks of the Rajshree Productions movie of 1983. But there was another movie of the same name that was released as way back as in 1948.

In Hindi movies,any occasion is good enough for a song. When one is happy, sad, in a romantic occasion, in a philosophical mood, in a party, in a mountain, in a beach- all these occasions lead to songs in Hindi movies.

Kishore Kumar made his debut as a singer in 1948, when he sang a song in “Ziddi”(1948) for Dev Anand. For much of the next two decades or so, Kishore Kumar sang either for himself or for Dev Anand. But it does not mean that he did not get opportunities to sing for other actors.

I was neither aware of this movie called “Pati Patni” (1966) nor of this song from this movie. Now I have come to know that this was a movie starring Nanda, Sanjeev Kumar, Mehmood, Om Prakash etc.

In 1950s and 1960s, we were treated to some wonderful ghazals, typically sung by Talat Mehmood/Rafi/Lata and typically composed by Madan Mohan.

In early 1950s, movies like “Jhamela” and “jhaanjhar” were produced and the songs of these movies were big rage. No one remembers these movies though. The reason is, the prints of these movies were destroyed in a fire that took place in the place where the prints of these movies were kept.
