atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Aadmi jo kehta hai aadmi jo sunta hai

Posted on: June 22, 2011

When I began this blog nearly three years ago, I discussed only one song a day. That gave me lots of time to discuss the song. I would have a detailed discussion on the song, and then I would also have a translation of the song.

With time, I decided to discuss more songs daily. As a result, I cut down on the length of the discussions, and I also stopped translating the songs. But I am fully aware that there are many lovers of Hindi movies who need translations of these songs. I would dearly love to translate all these songs if I had time. Nevertheless, I give translations of some songs if I can somehow be convinced to do that :).

A new visitor of this blog, Mr Steven, has requested for the translation of this song from “Majboor” (1974). This song is a party song where Amitabh Bachchan is asked to sing a song, and after customary reluctance, he decides to comply and sings this song.

This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and the song has gone on to become one of the many popular songs that Kishore Kumar sang for Amitabh Bachchan. The song is written by Anand Bakshi and its music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

While doing a quick translation of the song, I realised that Anand Bakshi wrote a lovely philosophical song in simple words. Writing philosophical thoughts in simple words may appear easy, but it is not so. Anand Bakshi could come up with such deceptively simple sounding yet wonderfully philosophical stuff when needed.

So here is this wonderful song from “Majboor” (1974) with lyrics as well as translation of the lyrics.

Song-Aadmi jo kehta hai aadmi jo sunta hai(Majboor) (1974) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

kabhi sochtaa hoon,
ki main kuchh kahoon
kabhi sochtaa hoon,
ki main chup rahoon

aadmi jo kehta hai aadmi jo suntaa hai,
zindagi bhar wo sadaayen peechhaa kartin hain
aadmi jo kehta hai aadmi jo suntaa hai,
zindagi bhar wo sadaayen peechhaa kartin hain
aadmi jo detaa hai, aadmi jo letaa hai
zindagi bhar wo duaayen peechhaa kartin hain

koi bhi ho har khwaab to sachchhaa nahin hotaa
koi bhi ho har khwaab to sachchhaa nahin hotaa
bahut jyaadaa pyaar bhi achchhaa nahin hotaa
kabhi daaman chhudaanaa ho, to mushqil ho
pyaar ke rishte tooten to, pyaar ke raste chhooten to
raaste mein phir wafaayen peechhaa kartin hain
aadmi jo kehta hai aadmi jo suntaa hai,
zindagi bhar wo sadaayen peechhaa kartin hain

kabhi kabhi man dhoop ke kaaran tarastaa hai
kabhi kabhi man dhoop ke kaaran tarastaa hai
kabhi kabhi phir jhoom ke saawan barastaa hai
palak jhapke yahaan mausam badal jaaye
pyaas kabhi mitati nahin, ik boond bhi milti nahin
aur kabhi rim jhim ghataayen peechhaa kartin hain
aadmi jo kehta hai aadmi jo suntaa hai,
zindagi bhar wo sadaayen peechhaa karti hain
aadmi jo detaa hai, aadmi jo letaa hai
zindagi bhar wo duaayen peechhaa kartin hain

Sometimes I feel I should say something
Sometimes I feel I better keep quiet
Whatever a man says and hears ,
those voices keep following him throughout his life
whatever blessings a man gives or is given,
stay with him for his entire life

All dreams of a man cannot come true
getting too much of love is not good for a man
one has difficulty if one has to to get rid of someone
in case one breaks off his relationships
those memories stay with him for his entire life

Sometimes a man feels thirsty in hot weather
and then all of a sudden he has a deluge of water
things can undergo a sudden change
Thirst can not be quenched, the single water drop meant to quench it can not be had when needed
And at other times there are rain clouds raining down on him wherever he goes
Whatever a man says and hears ,
those voices keep following him throughout his life
whatever blessings a man gives or is given,
stay with him for his entire life

I remember watching this movie once upon a time, and I remember listening to this song on the radio and learning the lyrics. The beauty of simple lyrics is that one can remember them after listening to the song a few times, and if they are meaningful, it makes them easier to remember (of course, it also helps if one is about 40 years younger!). This song has great lyrics and an easily hummable tune. It is a pity they don’t make tunes and songs like this any more. Thanks for the song, as well as the translation, Atul!

Love this song, and like Lalitha, I too love the simple yet meaningul lyrics, so easy to remember and sing along with. Thanks.

In the mid-70s, this was one of my favourite songs. Even now, I absolutely love it. Surprised it was not posted earlier.

I liked the movie also a lot, especially the suspense. Though the movie did not do too well, Amitabh’s acting was very good.

Thank you for the translation. It’s brilliant. The old songs have meaning that touch’s the heart & soul. U don’t get music like this today. Though I was born after this movie was released, I love the old movies and songs. It has a way of taking u back to your childhood.

Best Regards
