Ye lo main haari piyaa huyi teri jeet re

Posted on: August 10, 2011

Public have a se idea about the roles that the two genders play and they are used to the same roles being played by them in Hindi movies too. But sometimes movie makers come up with situations when the two genders behave in a rather unusual manner not expected of that gender and that makes amusing viewing for the public and subsequently more visits to the cinema hall for the movie makers.

Thus we have had cases where men would be seen behaving like women, viz sulking, allowing to get them teased by the women, dressing in drags as part of their disguise etc, much to the amusement of the movie going public. Likewise, it humoured public no end when they find women playing roles of a police official (dressed in masculine dress), driving cars and tongas, engaging in dhishum dhishum fights with baddies etc. And most people love it when they find women playing the go getter in romantic situations, viz wooing the man, cajoling and mollifying him, asking him out etc that normally men are supposed to do.

Here is just that kind of song from “Aar Paar” (1954). Guru Dutt is driving his car/taxi, sulking at Shyama and Shyama tries to make up with him by telling him that she is willling to swallow her pride and concede defeat and will he please give up sulking.

This song is sung by Geeta Dutt who is at her seductive and persuasive best. Majrooh Sultanpuri has come up with the lyrics whose idea was original and revolutionary at that time, nearly six decades ago, when this song was written.O P Nayyar is the music director.

I realised that this song was no yet discussed in the blog after I received the lyrics for this song from nahm. I am happy that this song finally takes its place in the blog.

Song-Ye lo main haari piyaa huyi teri jeet re (Aar Paar) (1954) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

Ye lo main
ye lo main
ye lo main haari piyaa
huyi teri jeet re
kaahe ka jhagda baalam
nayi nayi preet re
ye lo main haari piyaa

naye naye do nain miley hain
naye naye do nain miley hain
nayi mulaaqat hai
milte hi tum roothh gaye ji
ye bhi koyi baat hai
naye naye do nain miley hain
nayi mulaaqat hai
milte hi tum roothh gaye ji
ye bhi koyi baat hai
jaao ji maaf kiya
tu hi mera meet re
kaahe ka jhagda baalam
nayi nayi preet re
ye lo main haari piyaa

huyi tihaari sang chalo ji
huyi tihaari sang chalo ji
bainyyan meri thhaam ke
bandhhi balam qismat ki dori
sang tere naam ke
huyi tihaari sang chalo ji
bainyyan meri thhaam ke
bandhi balam qismat ki dori
sang tere naam ke
ladte hi ladte mausam
jaaye nahin beet re
kaahe ka jhagda baalam
nayi nayi preet re
ye lo main haari piyaa

chale kidhar ko bolo baabu
chale kidhar ko bolo baabu
sapnon ko loot ke
haay raam ji reh nahin jaaye
dil mera toot ke
chale kidhar ko bolo baabu
sapnon ko loot ke
haay raam ji reh nahin jaaye
dil mera toot ke
dekho main gaali doongi
chhod do yeh reet re
kaahe ka jhagda baalam
nayi nayi preet re
ye lo main haari piyaa
huyi teri jeet re
kaahe ka jhagda baalam
nayi nayi preet re
ye lo main haari piyaa
