Kisi ka kuchh kho gayaa hai

Posted on: September 24, 2011

“Dulhan Ek Raat Ki” (1966) is a Taxila production movie which was directed by D D Kashyap. This movie was supposedly based on a Thomas Hardy novel (according to imdb). The star cast of the movie has names like Dharmendra, Nutan, Rehman, Leela Chitnis, Niranjan Sharma, Kanhaiyalal, Tabassum, Mumtaz Begum, Johnny Walker etc.

This movie is known for a memorable song, viz. Ek haseen shaam ko dil mera kho gayaa . This song was sung by Rafi and it was picturised on Dharmendra.

Here is another song from the movie which is also sung by Rafi. So is it picturised on Dharmendra as well ? Not really. This time the song is pictrurised on Johny Walker. Johny Walker is shown riding a horse and holding a ladies umbrella. He has found this umbrella abandoned somewhere. obviously som lady had misplaced it and the good samaritan Johny Walker is trying to restore this article to its rightful owner.

How does Johny Walker know that the umbrella belongs to a lady ? I had asked this question during my childhood and I was told that colourful umbrellas were ladies umbrella whereas black umbrella were gents umbrella. This came as a big diappointment to me, because personally I liked the colourful umbrellas more but after this revelation I was umable to carry such umbrellas with me. Likewise I came to know that plain handkerchiefs were meant for men and colourful hankerchiefs were meant for ladies. Personally I found the colourful hankerchiefs much better, but this knowledge meant that I was forced to carry plain hankerchief with me. Bahut naainsaafi hai !

Since the umbrella that was in Johny Walker’s hand was a colourful umbrella with patterns, so it was obviously a ladies umbrella.

This brings us to the next question. Why did the owner of the said umbrella lose it ? It appears to me that the lady was just as forgetful as my wife. My wife would keep her mobile somewhere else and forget where she had kept it. Then she would ring that mobile from some other phone to locate it. In case she misplaces her keys/ spectacles, she would think of ringing them up, before realising that one cannot ring them up, at least not as yet. I have repeatedly told her to keep her articles at some pre determined place so one knows where to look for it. But in all these years, I have failed to convince her to do that.

Johny Walker sings this song in which he advertises the fact that the item (which, like Voldemort, is not mentioned by name even once) was lost and will the owner be kind enough to contact him. Much to his disappointment, no one turns up to claim the missing article.

The song is picturised on some hill station. It could be Shimla or some other such place. One can clearly see that the people gathered around Johny Walker are actually the locals eager to watch the shooting of this scene. to thecredit of the movie makers, they did not try to shoo them off and included the footages showing the curious by standarders trying to take a closer look at the shooting.

This song is written by Raja Mehdi ali Khan. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.

wo aa ke pehchaane
nahin to
isse le jaayenge begaane
kisi kaa
kuchh kho gayaa hai
kisi kaa
kuchh kho gayaa hai
