atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Aayi deewaali deep jalaa jaa

Posted on: October 26, 2011

“Pugree” (1948) was an “All India Pictures” presentation. This movie was directed by Anant Thakur. The cast of the movie included names like Wasti, Amar,Pratima Devi, Kamini Kaushal, Gope, Dixit, Ram Avtaar etc.

The movie was a musical bonanza for music lovers. I have discussed four songs from this movie in the past.

I have just found out that this movie also had a nice deewaali song in it.

Here is this deewali song from “Pugree” (1948). Names credited as singers of this song are Shamshad Begam and Sitara Kanpuri, but one can notice that the song has a male voice as well that sings a few lines. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify this male voice.

Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad.

As only the audio of this rare song is available, it is difficult to guess how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter as well.
PS-Now, thanks to Mr Sadanand Kamath, I have come to know that the video of this song also exists and that this song is picturised on Kamini Kaushal and Shashikala.

I take this opportunity to wish all the readers and visitors of this blog a very happy Deewaali and a very happy new year.

ho o o
aayi khushi ki raat suhaani
phool khilenge dil ke
aayi khushi ki raat suhaani
phool khilenge dil ke
is nagri mein do dil waale
raaj karenge milke
is nagri mein do dil waale
raaj karenge milke
main teri raani tu meraa raajaa
main teri raani tu meraa raajaa
o matwaale saajnaa,

daulatwaale ham kehlaayen
ghar hai na daulat apni
daulatwaale ham kehlaayen
ghar hai na daulat apni
jis ki bhains usi ki laathi
haaye re qismat apni
ik ik pyaali duudh pilaa jaa,

jai raam, jai raam, seetaa raam

aayi deewaali deep jalaa jaa
aayi deewaali deep jalaa jaa
o matwaale saajnaa,
o matwaale saajnaa
