atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Tu hi meri Laxmi tu hi meri Chhaayaa

Posted on: November 11, 2011

In most movies, the actors are named differently from their names. But there are occasions when the actors are given the same name. Then there are songs in which the actors are addressed by their actual names.

Here is just that kind of a song. This song is picturised on Jahny Walker and Laxmi Chhaaya. The song is sung by Rafi and the lyrics of the song go- ‘Tu hi meri Laxmi tu hi meri chaayaa”, viz ‘You are my Laxmi, you are my Chhaayaa”.

Closer inspection of the picturisation reveals that the picturisation shows Johny Walker singing this song with more than one lady and in all these cases he is seen removing a ring from the lady’s ring finger and slipping in another ring. And all this while Birbal seems quite happy for some reason.

I have been unable to decipher what is going on in this picturisation. I request our knowledgeable readers to help throw more light on this matter.

song-Tu hi meri Laxmi tu hi meri Chaayaa (Duniya) (1968) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri,MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

Tu hi meri Laxmi
tu hi meri Chhaayaa
duniyaa mein aayaa to teri khaatir aayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa
Tu hi meri Laxmi
tu hi meri Chhaayaa
duniyaa mein aayaa to teri khaatir aayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa

Johny ki tu jaani
haath badhaa deewaani
pyaar ka tu sapna
tu hai man ki rani
Johny ki tu jaani
haath badhaa deewaani
pyaar ka tu sapna
tu hai man ki rani
tera hi taraanaa maine hardam gaayaa
duniyaa mein aayaa to teri khaatir aayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa
Tu hi meri Laxmi
tu hi meri Chhaayaa
duniyaa mein aayaa to teri khaatir aayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa

patli patli ungli
pyaari pyaari ungli
jaise lady finger
ya Majnu ki pasli
patli patli ungli
pyaari pyaari ungli
jaise lady finger
ya Majnu ki pasli
maine tujho dekhaa
dil mera lalchaayaa
duniyaa mein aayaa to teri khaatir aayaa
O Laxmi Chhaayaa
Tu hi meri Laxmi
tu hi meri Chhaayaa
duniyaa mein aayaa to teri khaatir aayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa

gori ye kalaayi
jaise doodh malaayi
jaagi uski kismat
jin haathon mein aayi
ahaa
gori ye kalaayi
jaise doodh malaayi
jaagi uski kismat
jin haathon mein aayi
teri har adaa par ghar apna lutaayaa
duniya mein aayaa to teri khaatir aayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa
Tu hi meri Laxmi
tu hi meri Chhaayaa
duniyaa mein aayaa to teri khaatir aayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa
o Laxmi Chhaayaa

My only guess is that this song was definitely made in Memsaab heaven.

I remember this song and wondering what it was all about, but one thing was sure – it was a fun song to sing along with my sister!

Atul ji,
As per the story of the film, Johnny Walker is Dev Anand’s friend, and calls himself ‘Indian James Bond-009′.Birbal is his assistant. The scene takes place in Johnny Walker’s office, where he is trying to fool around with 3 girls at the same time.To extract info from them he has given them rings, which now he is trying to replace with the fake ones.

Thanks for the information. This will enable me to re write the article. :)

How come this song hasn’t elicited a response from memsaab? She is a great fan of Lakshmi Chaaya (along with Helen), and has expressed a desire, were there to be another “janam” for her, to come as Lakshmi Chaaya!
