Pardesi tum kaun kahaan se aaye ho

Posted on: April 26, 2012

This article is written by Sadanand Kamath, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

There was a time when Hindi film industry regularly churned out films based on mythological stories. These films were produced mostly by small time producers with small budget though a few of such films were also produced under big banners like Ram Rajya (1967) by Prakash Films.

It is stated that mythological films have a vast market in the semi-urban and rural areas which generally ensures the success of these films. Of late, new mythological films have become a rarity. Perhaps the taste of the rural and semi-urban population may have changed with the advent of television serials and also the spread of city culture through mass media.

I recently came across an audio clip from a mythological film called MAHASATI BEHULA (1964) containing the song ‘chamke chaand poonam ka’ which I had heard during my younger days. This led me to another audio clip of ‘pardesi tum kaun kahaan se aaye ho’ from the same film which was sung by Suman Kalyanpur and Mukesh. I had heard this song as well during my younger days but I never knew that both these songs were from this film. In fact, I had never heard of this film.

The film was produced under the banner of Adarshlok who were known for producing such type of films, and directed by Shanti Kumar. The star cast included Mahipal, Jaimala, Lalita Pawar, Niranjan Sharma, Ulhas and Mridula. The song was written by Bharat Vyas and set to music by Shivram ( I guess, Shivram and Shivramkrishna are the same person).

Only the audio clip of this song is available. I guess the songs may have been picturised on Mahipal and Jaimala. This song is a beautiful duet worthy of listening again and again.

Song-Pardesi tum kaun kahaan se aaye ho(Mahasati Behula)(1964) Singers-Suman Kalyanpur, Mukesh, Lyrics-Bharat Vyas, MD-Shivramkrishna

Lyrics

pardesi
tum kaun
kahaan se aaye ho
do pal ki pehchaan mein
man ko itne bhaaye ho
anjaane
tum kaun
nain mein chhaaye ho
do pal ki pehchaan mein man ko
itne bhaaye ho

pardesi
tum kaun

mera phoolon ka desh
jahaan chaandi ka cham cham
chamke gagan
aur sone si ujli zameen hai
mera phoolon ka desh
jahaan chaandi sa cham cham
chamke gagan
aur sone si ujli zameen hai
tujhe dekha to ab mujhe aisaa lagaa
aa aa aa
tujhe dekha to ab mujhe aisaa lagaa
wahaan teri hi bas ek kami hain
anjaane tum
kaun nain mein chhaaye ho
do pal ki pehchaan mein man ko
itne bhaaye ho

pardesi
tum kaun

tera sapnon ka desh
jahaan pariyaan bhi chham chham
naache magan
roop rangon ki jhaanki wahi hai
tera saponon ka desh
jahaan pariyaan bhi chham chham
naache magan
roop rangon ki jhaanki wahi hai
tera chandaa sa mukhdaa
ye chamke jahaan
aa aa aa
tera chandaa sa mukhdaa
ye chamke jahaan
wahaan poonam ki raat kuchh nahin
pardesi
tum kaun
kahaan se aaye ho
do pal ki pehchaan mein man ko
itne bhaaye ho
anjaane
tum kaun nain mein chhaaye ho
do pal ki pehchaan mein man ko
itne bhaaye ho

pardesi
tum kaun
