Pyaaraa hindola mera

Posted on: April 26, 2012

“Us Paar” (1974) is an obscure movie by now, even though this movie is a recent movie by the standards of this blog. This movie was a Cine Eye Films Production. It was produced and directed by Basu Chatterji. The movie had Vinod Mehra, Mausami Chatterji, Raja Paranjape, Padma Khanna, Jalal Agha, Lalita Kumari, Paintal, A.K.Hangal etc in it.

Here is a song from “Us Paar” (1974). It is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised at mela song on Mausami Chatterji who has set up her “hindola” in the mela and she is calling customers to her “hindola” by singing this song. So it is one of the rare “sales pitch” genre of song. So Hindi movie heroines sometimes actually do something for their living :) . The picturisation also shows Vinod Mehra, Paintal, Jalal Agha etc.

Yogesh is the lyricist and music is composed by S D Burman.

And why this particular song today. As it turns out, 26th april is the birthday of Mausami Chatterji and Prakashchandra, who must be a big fan of her, remembered the date a week in advance and he had in fact sent me lyrics of several songs picturised on Mausami Chatterji for the occasion, including this one. Mausami Chatterji must be suitably flattered to find that such a die hard fan of hers still exist. :)

So here is this song from “Us Paar” (1974). We in this blog take this opportunity to wish Mausami Chatterji a very happy birthday and many happy returns of the day.

Ya Atulji
I like Moushumi ji very much, because she reminds me my mother.

My Mummy`s face is exactly like Moushumi Chatterjee`s face.
Whenever I see Moushumi chatterjee, I feel like my mother is there on the screen.

Thanks for song.

regards

Prakash

This one is, one of my favourite favourite song,so I want to gloat over this song.
So please sorry If I get carried away by my personal feelings.

I think I was 5 years old, when I first heard this song through radio,
but from that time itself, I exactly remember the way asha ji sang the lines “Ghoome or Jhoome jhoome”,
It was etched in my memory(instead of matmatics table and sums),

After 15 years, I got to see the picturisation of this song,
picturisation did exactly match upto my expectations.

Whenever I listen to this song, I feel like I am on seventh heaven. The voice gives me a feel of elation and freedom.
I know you people laugh at my madness. But that`s the way I am.

And remember, in my personal opinion Uss paar is
VERY GOOD(eventhough a little bit slower, devoid of usual off repeated masala ingredients).
It has got very much good songs from
Sachin Dev Burmanji,Yogeshji,Lataji, Mannadey ji,Rafi ji.

I hope you all people throw stones at me, if I go on singing praises about this movie and the songs.

Prakashchandraji, I love Us Paar and its songs. The movie was really really sweet. They say Rajshri made this movie and Geet Gata Chal. They thought this movie was a winner, and Geet Gata Chal would do average business, as UP had famous actors. But something quite opposite happened.

I find, Kiya mene kya kiya by Manna Dey really pulls at my heartstrings.

Thanks Ava ji for sharing the same sentiments towards my favourite movie.
regards
Prakash

Prakash ji,

What a lovely revival. Just like yourself, I had a great crush on this song, after hearing it for the first time as a child. Actually, I got to see this film on Doordarshan not too long after its release. At that age, I could not get much hang of the theme and storyline. It is very episodic – a simple presentation of something that happened one summer in a village, and then life as usual afterwards. But this song made its way straight into my heart and my memory.

I have always been biased towards black and white visuals, and I dare say that the song looked much prettier on the Doordarshan screen (back then there was no color), as compared to seeing it again in color.

Just some days back I chanced to come across this film on disc and immediately purchased it. This post is a very co-incidental reminder for me to see it again.

Thanks for the joyful memories

Rgds
