on:“Aalingan”(1974) , though a recent movie by the standards of this movie is an extremely obsure movie. This movie was a low budget movie, which were then euphemistically described as art movie and they used to be made with out of work newcomers.
This movie was a Jasmine Films Production. It was directed by C L Dheer. This movie had Zaahira and Romesh Sharma in lead roles, with Jugnu, Ashoo, Zahira, Suresh Chatwal, Anjana, Achla Sachdev, Satyen Kappu, Nitin Sethi also figuring in it.
The songs of this movie were equally obscure. Personally I never heard these songs those days.
Here is one obscure but nice song from this movie. This “missing the opportunity” song is sung by Manna Dey and it is picturised on Romesh Sharma and Zaahira.
Jaan Nisaar Akhtar is the lyricist and music is composed by Jaidev.
I was made aware of this song by Sudhir Jee. This song is a forgotten gem, this is for sure.

Song-Pyaas thhi phir bhi taqaazaa na kiya (Aalingan)(1974) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Jaan Nisaar Akhtar, MD-Jaidev
Lyrics
hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm
rurururu
laralalalaeralalalala
pyaas thhi
pyaas thhi
phir bhi taqaazaa na kiyaa
phir bhi taqaazaa na kiyaa
pyaas thhi phir bhi taqaazaa na kiyaa
jaane kyaa sochke aisaa na kiyaa
sochke aisaa na kiyaa
badhke haathon pe uthhaa lenaa thaa
tujhko seene se lagaa lenaa thaa
tere honthon se
tere honthon se tere gaalon se
mujhko har rang churaa lenaa thaa
jaane kyaa sochke aisaa na kiyaa
sochke aisaa na kiyaa
haath aanchal se jo takraa jaataa
haath aanchal se jo takraa jaataa
ek rangeen nashaa chhaa jaataa
tere seene pe
tere seene pe khuli zulfon ko
choom letaa to qaraar aa jaataa
jaane kyaa sochke aisaa na kiyaa
sochke aisaa na kiyaa
pyaas thhi
phir bhi taqaazaa na kiyaa
jaane kyaa sochke aisaa na kiyaa
sochke aisaa na kiyaa
dil haseen aag mein dhal sakta thha
mera armaan nikal sakta thha
tera marmar se
tera marmar se taraasha ye badan
garm haathon se pighal sakta thha
jaane kyaa sochke aisaa na kiyaa
sochke aisaa na kiyaa
pyaas thhi phir bhi taqaazaa na kiyaa
jaane kyaa sochke aisaa na kiyaa
sochke aisaa na kiyaa

This is one of Jaidev’s rare composition in which a classical raga based tune has been blended with a dash of western orchestration. The result – a superb song on equally superb poetry of . Jaan Nisaar Akhtar. Unfortunately, the video and audio quality is not so good to enjoy the song. Listening the song on a video clip of Manna Dey’s live performance on DD, in my view, is better.
