atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Aa ra ra ra ra ra main to giri re

Posted on: October 4, 2012

“Post Box 999″ (1958) was a Nagina Films Production. It was directed by Ravindra Dave. The movie had Sunil Dutt, Shakila, Leela Chitnis, Amarnath, Tiwari, Krishnakant, Purnima, Mirza Musharraf, Ramesh Sinha, Manorama, Gulab etc in it.

As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie.

This song is sung by Lata. P L Santoshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji. It is one of the earlier movies of Kanlyanji as a sole music director before he was joined by Anandji too.

Only the audio of this song is available as of now. I can guess that it is picturised on a lady who has got herself drunk. If so, it is quite an advanced and “progressive” thing to do in India of 1950s. I have no idea who the actress was on whom this song was poicturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the picturisation of this song.
PS-Mr Sadanand Kamath has provided the video link of this song. It can be seen that the song is picturised on Shakila.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-Aa raa ra ra ra ra main to giri re (Post Box 999) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-P L Santoshi, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

aa raa ra ra ra ra
main to giri re
giri re
giri re
aaraa ra ra ra ra
main to giri re
giri re
giri re
koi sambhaalo
koi sambhaalo
aaraa ra ra ra ra
main to giri re
giri re
giri re
arz hai huzoor se
ke door hi door se
peene ka mazaa lo
jeene ka mazaa lo
aaraa ra ra ra ra
main to giri re
giri re
giri re

pyaaliyon ko todd do
sharaab ko chhod do
nasha gar chaahiye to
hamse naataa jodd lo
pyaaliyon ko todd do
sharaab ko chhod do
nasha gar chaahiye to
hamse naataa jodd lo
aankhon se pilaaungi
pyaas bujhaungi
duniya bhulaaungi
apne dil mein basaa lo
koi sambhaalo
koi sambhaalo
aaraa ra ra ra ra
mai to giri re
giri re
giri re

sabse munh pher do
ek nazar ho idhar
mere iss jaam ka
nashaa rahe umr bhar
sabse munh pher do
ek nazar ho idhar
mere iss jaam ka
nashaa rahe umr bhar
aisaa mazaa aayegaa
jeete ji na jaayegaa
mastt ho ke gaayega
koi to mujhko sambhalo
koi sambhaalo
koi sambhaalo
aaraa ra ra ra ra
main to giri re
giri re
giri re
arz hai huzoor se ke
door hi door se
peene ka mazaa lo
jeene ka mazaa lo
aaraa ra ra ra ra
main to giri re
giri re
giri re
