Kishore Kumar, who was externally a jovial and boisterous character had a sensitive side to him as well. He could sing serious and sensitive songs with the same ease with which he rendered fun songs. When it came to producing movies, Kishore Kumar has produced rip roaring comedy viz. “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi” (1958) and “Jhumru” (1961), but many of his subsequent movies dealt with sensitive topics. These movies were far ahead of their times and the Indian masses were by and large not evolved enough to appreciate Kishore Kumar’s subsequent movies on serious topics, namely “Door Gagan Ki Chhaaon Mein”(1964), “Door Ka Raahi” (1971), “Door Waadiyon Mein” (1982).
Overall, Kishore Kumar produced and directed 14 movies. Kishore Kumar multi tasked in most of these movies in the sense that he produced, directed, acted, composed music , sang etc in them. The songs of these movies may not have become very popular but they are great songs to listen to.
“Mamta Ki Chhaaon Mein” (1989) was the last movie of Kishore Kumar as a producer and director and this movie was released after his death in 1987. He did not act in it, but other familiy members, including Leena Chandawarkar, Amit Kumar and then then young Sumit Kumar all acted in this movie. Rajesh Khanna and Raj Babbar were the main male actor in this movie.
Kishore Kumar was the lyricist and music director of this movie and he composed some wonderful songs.
The song under discussion, viz “Teri jeewan gaadi” is one that is “new” to me. I had never heard this song before. Having first heard it a few hours ago, I am simply bowled over by this song. The video version of this song is picturised as a bullock cart song cum movie opening song in the movie. This song is over three minutes long. The audio version of the song in nearly twice as long and every second of the audio is worth listening to. While the video of the song was available on YT, the audio version was not available till now.
Here is this fantastic song from “Mamta Ki Chhaaon Mein” (1989). The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and chorus. Kishore Kumar is the lyricist as well as the music director as well.
