atul's bollywood song a day- with full lyrics

Dupatta mera malmal ka

Posted on: November 24, 2012

By listening to the music of songs, one can often identify the music director of the song. But that is not always the case. There have been occasions when a music director may compose in a style associated with some other music director.

We all are familiar with Madan Mohan’s music style which reached its peak in 1960s. But the music style of madan Mohan was not all that well defined during the early part of his career, viz in 1950s. One in fact finds movies in early 1950s where Madan Mohan composed music in the style of S D Burman or O P Nayyar. For instance , songs of movies like “Bhai Bhai” (1956), “Pocketmaar” (1956) are composed in non Madan Mohan style.

In “Aadalat” (1958), one can see Madan Mohan beginning to compose in his trademark style, but even in this movie he has composed a song in O P Nayyar style. Here is this song which is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Geeta Dutt and chorus. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist.

Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to say how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

PS-It turns out that the video of this song is available. The picturisation shows this song being picturised as a dance performance in a college function. The song is lip synced by Nargis, Minu Mumtaz and others.

Atul ji,
In ADALAT-58,Madan Mohan’s assistant was S.L.Puri,who was O.P.Nayyar’s asstt. for a long time.It is likely that this tune was prepared by Puri, that is why it has the Nayyar style.

Asha Bhonsle and Geeta Dutt lip sync for Nargis and Minoo Mumtaz respectively.

wow this song is nice to listen to. tell me why does this song remind me of the song “Le de sainyaa odhni” from “Pavitra Paapi”. also the word Saleti was used in which other song which Atul has posted. i am asking bcoz someone had questioned the meaning of the word back then. doesn’t it mean “Dark Grey”

Yes, saleti is dark gray. “salety” is derived from the English word “slate” that tiny tots write on. “salety” is the colour of slate which is gray

yes thank you for the confirmation. but which song did it appear previously. how does one look for a song with a particular search word?

The Punjabi folk song “Latthe di chadar rang saleti” may be the song you are looking for. One link is
