Dagaabaaz ho baanke piyaa

Posted on: November 26, 2012

“Burma Road” (1962) was a Films Fountain Production. It was directed by Tara Harish. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Moti Sagar, Ajit, Kumkum, Mohan Choti, Vijaya Choudhury, Sheikh Mukhtar, Jeevankala etc in it.

As many as three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fourth song from the movie. The song is sung by Lata and Usha Mangeshkar. It is picturised on Kumkum and Vijaya Chaudhary who are seen singing and dancing in front of enemy forces (from the looks of them, they look like Japanese forces). By the rules of Hindi movies, such songs and dances have the desired effect even on alien characters. So while Kumkum and Jeevankala are causing diversion successfully, Ashok Kumar is busy doing the groundwork for planting explosives in the enemy territory.

Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)

dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho

o baanke piya
kaho haan
kaho haan
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho

aji kal se surat nahin dikhlaayi
ho oo oo oo
ho oo ho oo

aji kal se surat nahin dikhlaayi
ho jaane kahaan tum rehte
aji kal se surat nahin dikhlaayi
jaane duniya balam teri chaturaayi
ek hum hi nahin ye kehte

jaane duniya balam teri chaturaayi
aji kahin jaao kyun
kasam bhi khilwaao kyun
kisi se kyun poochho sainyaan
dil se poochho na
dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho

nirmohi kahaan pe aur kis dil mein
ho oo oo
oo ho oo

nirmohi kahaan pe aur kis dil mein
ho aaye gale ????
nirmohi kaha pe aur kis dil mein
koi chor chhupa hai tumre man mein
nahin baat bhi tum se hoti

koi chor chhupa hai tumhre man mein
khade ho yoon chup chup kyun
jubaan huyi gupchup kyun
aji zara bolo saiyaan
kuchh to bolo na
dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho

mil ya mat mil
piya teri marzi
ho oo oo oo
ho oo ho oo

mil ya mat mil
piya teri marzi
huyi main to teri baawariya
mil ya mat mil
piya teri marzi

ho tum to janam ke bedardi
par kya main karoon saanwariya

ho tum to janam ke bedardi
gore ho ya kaare ho
tum hi hamen pyaare ho
hamen nahin dekho sainyaan
khud ko dekho na
dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho
baanke piya
kaho haan
dagaabaaz ho

This film had some strange pairings! Veteran Ashok Kumar was paired with very young Vijaya Choudhary (A Classic mismatch!!) & Kumkum was paired with Moti sagar (Who’s name is missing from your star list). A song-duet was also filmed on Ashok Kumar & Vijaya Choudhary!!

Nayanji,
You are right. I just checked the imdb site, and Moti sagar is there in the cast list. Atulji ko gaana bheja tab Moti Sagar ka naam likhna main bhul gayi. Thanks for the info.

Atulji,
The second dancer is Jeevankala, not Vijata Chaudhary. Prakashji ki raah dekhni padegi, confirmation ke liye. :)

Khyati ji

You are right, It is Jeevankala, other artistes I can Identify in the song are Moti sagar,Ratan Gaurang,Kumkum,Mohan choti, Ashok kumar

When last week we have discussions on Chtiragupta’s ‘main kaun hoon, main kahaan hoon’, and i browse Chitragupta’s songs on our blog, i note that this was balance… and here it is.
Thanks Khyati ji and Atul ji !!!

Avinashji,
I knew the song, but was unaware about the fact that Chitragupta has composed this song. :( Glad you liked it. :)
