Meri jhilmil jhilmil bindiya

Posted on: November 27, 2012

“Mama Bhanja” (1977), not to be confused with Manmohan Desai directed “Chacha Bhatija” (1977), was directed by Naresh Kumar. The movie had real life Chacha bhatija (Shammi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor ) playing Mama and Bhanja respectively. The movie also had Parveen Babi, Asha Sachdev, Nadira, Jagdish Raj, Lalita Pawar, Ram Mohan etc in it.

It is interesting to note that Randhir Kapoor was there in both the movies and playing the same role (that of Bhanja/ Bhatija). I have not seen these two movies but I suspect that both movies had similar plots. What I recall from those days is that “Chacha Bhatija” (1977) was a big hit. “Mama Bhanja”(1977) in comparison did rather modest business at the box office.

Personally I am not much aware of the songs of “Mama Bhanja”(1977). Here is a lesser known song from this movie which is sung by Usha Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle. Only the audio of this song is available on internet as far as I can tell. From the dialogue that precedes the audio of the song, one can make out that a pair of daughter and mother are wooing a prince and his secretary. Daughter is played by Asha Sachdev and mother is played by Nadira.

Asha Sachdev is after Randhir Kapoor who is masquerading as a “Prince”. Nadira is wooing the Sikh secretary of the “Prince” who is in reality Parveen Babi in disguise. :)

Usha Mangeshkar sings for Nadira while Asha Bhonsle sings for Asha Sachdev.

The song is written by Rajinder Krishan. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.

I found the song quite hummable right from the very first time that I heard this song today.

Lyrics of the song as well as other details about its picturisation etc were sent to me by Peevesie’s mom.

Lyrics(Provided by Peevesie’s Mom)

meri jhilmil jhilmil bindiya
boley kahaan gayi re teri nindiya
o boley kahaan gayi re teri nindiya
o boley kahaan gayi re teri nindiya
ke guddu baaba mera dil le gaya
ke guddu baaba mera dil le gaya
o
meri jhilmil jhilmil bindiya
bole kahaan gayi re teri nindiya
o boley kahaan gayi re teri nindiya
ke guddu baaba mera dil le gaya
ke guddu baaba mera dil le gaya

palkein meri jhukne lagin
saansein meri rukne lagin
palkein meri jhukne lagin
saansein meri rukne lagin
boley re boley re mera dil boley
teri ankhiyon mein aaj mera pyaar doley
teri ankhiyon mein aaj mera pyaar doley

baanke rasiya mere man basiya
meri duniya main ab tum aaye re
ek roz pyaar hota hai
kab roz roz hota hai
o kab roz roz hota hai
o baalmaa dekho mera dil le gaya
o baalmaa dekho mera dil le gaya

chali re chali main toh chali
pehli pehli baar yaar ki gali
darr darr ke mere pade re kadam
zara dena sahaara mujhe mere balam
zara dena sahaara mujhe mere balam
baanke rasiya mere man basiya
mori baali umar ghabraaye re
meri jhilmil jhimil bindiya
boley kahaan gayi re teri nindiya
o boley kahaan gayi re teri nindiya
ke guddu baaba mera dil le gaya
ke guddu baaba mera dil le gaya
