Diljalon ka dil jalaa ke

Posted on: January 17, 2013

Second week of may 1973 must have been very tense for Amitabh Bachchan. His very career hinged on the success of a movie that was being released on 11 may 1973. If this movie flopped at the box office then Amitabh Bachchan had decided to pack his bags and go back to Allahabad.

Friday, 11th May arrived and the movie was released on movie halls. The movie was liked by the audience and Amitabh Bachchan stayed back in Bombay and the rest, as they say, is history.

“Zanjeer” (1973) was produced and directed by Prakash Mehra. The movie had Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri, Pran, Ajit, Om Prakash, Sanjana, Bindu, Iftekhar, Randhir, Gulshan Bawra, Keshto Mukherjee, Ram Mohan, Yunus Perwaiz, Bhushan Tiwari, Satyen Kappu, Indrani Mukherjee, Goga Kapoor, B. B. Bhalla, Purnima, M. Rajan, Sushil, Omkar, Nandita Thakur, Sapru, Amrit Pal, Dhanraj, Raju, Asha Lata, Mac Mohan, Ram Sethi etc in it.

Incidentally, Amitabh Bachchan was not the first choice to play the hero in this movie. He was signed up only after the role was refused by Dev Anand and Raj Kumar. This ios reminiscent of “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” (1957). Taht movie was originally offered to Dev Anand, who refused that and the role was finally offered to a struggling actor called Shammi Kapoor. “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” (1957) gave us Shammi Kapoor in a new makeover and likewise we got Amitabh Bachchan in a new makeover in “Zanjeer” (1973).

While discussing the significance of this movie in the history of Hindi movies, let us not forget the music of the movie, which had played a stellar role in the success of this movie. Its song Yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi was finished at the very top of Binaca Geetmala, that is how popular this song was ! Other songs of the movie too played their part.

Today (17 january 2013) is the birtday of Bindu. On this occasion here is a song from “Zanjeer” (1973). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Bindu as a cabarat song. Amithabh Bachchan, Ajit, Goga Kapoor and Ranveer Raj are also visible in the picturisation.

Gulshan Bawra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

diljalon kaa
dil jalaake
kyaa milegaa dilrubaa
diljalon kaa
dil jalaake
kyaa milegaa dilrubaa
dil ne mere dil se tere
dil ne mere dil se tere
haal-e-dilbar keh diyaa
diljalon kaa
dil jalaake
kyaa milegaa dilrubaa

dil hi toh hai dil kaa kyaa
dil hi toh hai dil kaa kyaa
kabhi idhar
kabhi udhar
yahaan se dil
wahaan gayaa
magar tujhe naa huyee khabar
dil kissee ko
do toh jaanoon
kyaa guzarti hai dil par
dil kaa denaa
dil kaa lenaa
kaam hai dildaar kaa
dil ne mere dil se tere
dil ne mere dil se tere
haal-e-dilbar keh diyaa
diljalon kaa
dil jalaake
kyaa milegaa dilrubaa

dil ke binaa
yeh zindagi
dil ke binaa
yeh zindagi
yeh zindagi
hai dillagi
dil ki lagee
o be-rehem
o be-rehem hai bhalaa buri
dil se mere chaahe khelo
chaahe le lo hai aapkaa
dil hai sheeshaa
dil hai patthar
sunn le dil ki tu sadaa
dil ne mere dil se tere
dil ne mere dil se tere
haal-e-dilbar keh diyaa
diljalon kaa
dil jalaake
kyaa milegaa dilrubaa
diljalon kaa
dil jalaake
kyaa milegaa dilrubaa
