Today (30 january 2013) is the 65th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi (2 october 1869- 30 january 1948). He was one leader who genuinely made a change in the world and that was a change for the betterment of people. He was a leader who inspired all the major mass movements of the 20th centuries namely anti colonialism, anti apartheid, and nearer home, anti touchability.
Hindi movies do not have too many songs devoted to Gandhi, but here is a song that I came across just now and I loved listening to it.
This song is sung by Lalita Deulkar and a male voice which could well be C Ramchandra, and chorus. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us who could be this male singer.
I know from a comment post in the blog in the past that Rehana had lip synced this voice in Lalita Deunlkar’s voice. It was a dance song according to that comment.

What a nostalgic song which I used to hear in my childhood days – not on radio but in our house itself. Thanks for posting this song on the Mahatma Gandhi’s remembrance day.

Atul ji… thank u …this song is with me. The male singer is none other than Chitalkar himself. The simplicity, reverence and expression of patriotism is heart-touching. Lalita ji;s vocal sound as if she is telling her beloved to select and buy only KHADI …there is no lust for new garments but a token of love for nation. Chitalkar and his team deserves respect.

Atul ji, a small correction needs to be done in first line i.e. Bapu’s death anniversary date to be corrected as 30 th January 1948 please.

આખરે 64 વર્ષ પછી આ ગીત સાંભળ્યું અને જૂની સ્મૃતિ તાજી થઇ,
ગાયક લલીતા દેઓલકર અને સંગીતકાર સી,રામચંદ્રને પણ આ
ગાંધી નિર્વાણ દિન પ્રસંગે અંજલી આપીએ,ગીતના બોલ પણ એક
હિન્દુસ્તાનીની યાદ અપાવે છે તે બદલ પી,એલ,સંતોષીને પણ
અંજલી આપીએ,

If you don’t mind, I would like to translate your comments and words of appreciation in English-
At last, after 64 years I heard this song and my old memories were fresh. Let’s pay our tribute/homage to the singer Lalita Dewoolkar and MD C. Ramchandra also, on the death anniversary of Gandhiji. Words of this song also reminds us to be an Indian and for that, let’s pay our tribute to P. L. Santoshi also.
