Tu mera din hai main teri raat

Posted on: February 6, 2013

“Sanyasi”(1975) was a Filmnagar Production. It was produced and directed by Sohanlal Kanwar. The movie had Manoj Kumar, Hema Malini, Prem Nath, Prem Chopra, Brahma Bhardwaj, Dhumal, Aruna Irani, Sulochana Latkar, Pran, Kamini Kaushal, Indrani Mukherjee, Chandrashekhar, Shailesh Kumar, Raj Mehra, Helen, Arpana Chowdhary, Jayashree T, Hari Shivdasani, Murad, V Gopal, Rajpal, Kuljeet, Kamaldeep, Keshav Rana, Yunus Parvez, C.S.Dubey, Narbada Shankar, Tiger, Shera, Romeo, G.A.Sheikh, Dinesh Hingoo, Bihari, Darshan Arora, Sabina, Sheila, Madhup Sharma, Krishna Kumar, Pran, Kumari Naaz, Nazima etc in it.

I remember that the radio advertisement of this movie consisted of playing the title song of this movie, viz. “Chal Sanyasi Mandir Mein”. I was mainly aware of this title song from the movie.

Here is a song from “Sanyasi” (1975) that I had never heard before till now ! This song is a cabarat song picturised on Helen, Arpana Chaudhary and Jayshree T. Common sense suggests that Asha Bhonsle and if a male voice was required then Kishore Kumar or Rafi were the suitable voice for a cabarat song. There were occasions when Lata has sung cabarat songs. But I was not aware of Suman Kalyanpur too singing such songs.

This song has Suman Kalyanpur giving playback for all the three ladies, viz Helen, Arpana Chaudhary and Jayshree T. With so many actors populating this movie, I am surprised why the three dancers were made to share a common voice in this song.

And that is not all. We also have Mukesh singing this song. The picturisation shows many people in disguise including Manoj Kumar, Premnath, Prem Chopra, Raj Mehra etc. I am unable to find out who lip syncs in Mukesh’s voice despite watching the picturisation a few times. My guess is that it must be Manoj Kumar who had lip synced in Mukesh’s voice in other songs of this movie.

This movie had as many as seven lyricists ! This song is written by M G Hashmat. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan. In reality it was Shankar alone, since Jaikishan had already died five years ago.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Tu mera din hai main teri raat (Sanyasi)(1975) Singers-Suman Kalyanpur, Mukesh, Lyrics-M G Hashmat, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Chorus

Lyrics (Provided by Prakashchandra)

tu meraa din hai
main teri raat
aa jaa aa aa
har sham teri meri
hogi mulaaqaat
aa jaa aa aa
tu meraa din hai
main teri raat
aa jaa aa
har sham teri meri
hogi mulaaqaat
aa jaa aa

saagar mahal hai
saagar kinaare
bijlee bujhaake
karoongi ishaare
nazrein bachaakar
oopar bulaaoongi
aaine mein tumse ae ae
aankhein milaaoongi
ussmein nageene jaisaa
lagegaa shabaab
bass ussee jageh
bass ussee jageh
hogi mulaaqaat

chor ko hi dekh ghabraaye
aagey aagey tum
peechhe hum aa gaye
jisski talaash thi
usse paa gaye
choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye

ho choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye
choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye

tu meraa din hai
main teri raat
aa jaa aa
har shaam teri meri
hogi mulaaqaath
aa jaa aa

parbat ke chhoti pe
patthhar ki kothi hai
wahaan teri yaad mein ae ae
ek balaa roti hai
kehne ko aansoo hain
samjho toh moti hain
jab gharwaalon ki ee
aankh lagi hoti hai
khidki se dekhti hoon
taaron ki baaraat
bass ussee jageh
bass ussee jageh
hogi mulaaqaat

achchaa huaa heere mothi bahaar aa gaye
kissne kamaayaa aur kaun khaa gaye
donon ke naseeb aaj takraa gaye
aur choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye

hho choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye
choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye

tu meraa din hai
main teri raat
aa jaa aa
har shaam teri meri
hogi mulaaqaath
aa jaa aa

kar lo waadaa aa aa
saath chaloge
nayee car mein ae ae
sair karoge
makhmal ke pardon ke
saaye mein chhuppke
aayegaa mazaa
tere pyaar mein lutke
palkon se pilaaongi main
pyaar ki sharaab
bass ussee jageh
bass ussee jageh
hogi mulaaqaat

dekhaa teraa roop
sab dhokhaa khaa gaye
aankhon ke ishaare hum samjhaa gaye
nehle pe dehlaa bann ke hum aa gaye
choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye

haayye choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye
choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye
choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye
choron kaa maal sab chor khaa gaye

The guy who lip syncs for this song is Manoj Kumar(He was in the habit of wearing hats and cooling glasses during those years in movies like Dus Numbri, Be-imaan etc-I think Most probably to hide his ageing process i.e., wrinkles around eyes and balding head)

That was rare cabaret by Suman; maybe first and last. She sounds like Sharda when she sings in high pitch.
Manoj has still not gone bald.
