Mere dil se ye nain

Posted on: February 20, 2013

This article is written by Pamir Harvey, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

In my last post on the song from “Zehreela Insaan” (1974), I gave a short synopsis of the movie. This song, filmed on Rishi Kapoor and Moushumi Chatterjee, shows them in happier times. Since they are playing college students here, they have most probably bunked classes to meet and sing a song. This seems to be a popular haunt with the main protagonist of the film. Three songs of the film are shot here.

After his debut in “Bobby” (1973), Rishi Kapoor preferred Shailendra Singh as his voice. Pancham’s favourite male singer, Kishore Kumar, gets to sing only one song in the film the ethereal(O hansini). Shailendra Singh might not have been a versatile singer but his timbre does have a certain attraction to it. It gels well with that of Asha Bhosle here and the romance in the song is palpable. Pancham offers again a sensual duet, without resorting to deep tones or heavy orchestration.

Song-Mere dil se yeh nain (Zehreela Insaan )(1974) Singers-Shailendra Singh, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-R D Burman
Both

mere dil se yeh nain
mile rehne do jaan-e-man
mere dil se yeh nain
mile rehne do jaan-e-man
yeh do ghadi behel jaata hai
dil deewaanaa

la la la lalala
hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
yeh do ghadi behal jaata hai
dil deewaanaa

deewaanaa
deewaanaa
deewaanaa

inke bina yahan wahan aise phiroon
uljhan ka maaraa
o o o o o
inke bina yahan wahan aise phiroon
uljhan ka maaraa
pairon tale jaise koi rakhta chaley
jalta angaaraa
ho o dukh mera yeh jaane
ho o ya jaane mera haal
yeh veeraanaa

ho o mere dil se yeh nain
mile rehne do jaan-e-man
yeh do ghadi behal jaata hai
dil deewaanaa

deewaanaa
deewaanaa
deewaanaa

tum bhi mujhe dekho yoonhi hotey rahe
dil ki do baatein

aa aa aa
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
tum bhi mujhe dekho yunhi hote rahe
dil ki do baatein
tumhi se to miley mujhe
jeevan ke din, jeevan ki raatein

hooo
yeh raat din jukh jaaye
hooo
phir bhi naa ruk paaye
yeh afsaanaa
hoo, mere dil se yeh nain
miley rehne do jaan-e-man
yeh do ghadi behel jaata hai
dil deewaanaa

mere dil se yeh nain
mile rehne do jaan-e-man

yeh do ghadi behel jaata hai
dil deewaanaa
deewaanaa
deewaanaa
deewaanaa
deewaanaa

Sweet melody….My type of song.

I knew you would like it, Prakashji! Thanks for confirming my guess! :-)

I just love the location of the song. The song is melodious and lovely.

Love it too! Looks like the place, where Sholay was shot.
Prakashji informed that it is in Chitradurga, some 200 km away from Bangalore.

I think Sholay was shot at Ramnagar-a small rocky village in the outskirts of Bangalore. This Chitradurga is a seperate district of Karnataka state

Nice Post Pamir Harveyji. i completely agree with you about this being their favourite haunt. i would also like to add here my observation about romance of those times—– it used to burn a lot of calories what with all the running around or dancing at parties & slyly conveying love with smiles & eyes (even facial muscles needed to be well toned???) that people used to do. Right or wrong???? :-)

Thank you Peevsie’s mom!
Re.: burning calories
Wait till you see the other song of this movie “ye sil sila”. The lyrics post should appear soon. I have submitted it to Atul already alongwith “saanp se bhadkar”.
Nice to see you enjoyedd the song.
