Jobna se chunariya khisak gayee re

Posted on: May 1, 2013

Today (1 may 2013) is the 94th birth anniversary of Manna Dey. Radio/ TV stations, sites etc must be celebrating this occasion with some of his songs. It is easy for most of them. All they have to do is discuss some of the well known Manna Dey songs from movies like “Zanjeer”, “Upkaar”, “Dil Hi To Hai”, “Anand”, “Mera Naam Joker” etc and that is all. The same well known songs can be used on other similar occasions as well.

It is a different scenario for this blog though. We cannot repeat a song if it has been discussed once. All the well known Manna Dey songs have already been discussed in the past. In fact, many lesser known Manna Dey songs have also been discussed. As many as 276 songs sung by Manna Dey have been covered in the blog.

Still lots more Manna Dey songs are left for us to be discussed, and some of them are reasonably well known as well.

On the occasion of Manna Dey’s birth annniversary, here is a lesser known song from “Dhundh” (1973). This song is a mujra song which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Manna Dey. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra some time back. The video link of thos song was available at that time which is no longer available. Prakashchandra mentions that the song was picturised on Chaand and Deven Verma.

Here is the audio of this song for the time being. It is quite a nice song to listen to.

I remember the song situation, which is somewhat like this:
Policemen are after Deven Verma(he plays the role of servant to Danny) who has got some clue regarding Danny`s murder, Deven verma was busy with this mujrewali (Chaand)and singing song.Policemen arrest him at the kotha after he finishes singing this song. After this fun filled song the proceedings on screen become somewhat serious.

Music Director Ravi in his radio interview(while speaking about Sahir Ludhianvi)told he suggested the lyrics of this song to Sahir, as the movie situation required a little bit of cheap lyrics. Sahir insisted that Music director Ravi should get credit for writing this song, while bringing out the LP of this movie songs.

Video link found featuring dancer Chaand and Deven Verma:

Thanks Prakash ji for this song.

@ Atul ji – With this song all songs for this movie- Dhundh-1973 were covered in this blog.
I remember to have mentioned this in one of my mails, but not commented on this then.
Today when I look back all the posts related to this movie I found that the same (with this movie all songs….) is also not mentioned in the post. So kindly add the same.
And, here are the CONGRATULATIONS on covering all songs of this movie and its joining to the ‘list of movies- all songs covered’

The fact that all songs of the movie have been covered was not being mentioned those days, but this movie name is already coloured in orange and this movie figures in the list of movies with all songs covered.
