I am very very sorry tera naam bhool gayi

Posted on: June 24, 2013

This article is written by Arunkumar Deshmukh, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

This is the 10th, last and final song in the series “Lata with uncommon singers”.

I have selected a song from a 1994 film, Chand ka Tukdaa, intentionally. The reason is we can check if there is any difference in Lata’s voice after almost 50 years of playback singing. In this song Lata is singing with Vipin Sachdeva.

I have not kept track of Lata’s singing, so I do not know if she is still singing in films. Our knowledgeable readers can throw some light on this, probably, on which was her last song so far.

VIPIN SACHDEVA is a new name for me, but he may be known to many younger people. Vipin was born in 1965 at Delhi. His father was a C.A. and mother a Housewife. Though there was no connection of music in their family from any side, Vipin started singing in school and social gatherings from the age of 8 years. According to him, ‘ Like Eklavya’ he had made Mohd. Rafi as his Guru. Luckily, once he had an opportunity of singing in Rafi’s presence and he was much appreciated by Rafi, specially because he had never taken any professional training. He said it was God’s gift.

Vipin’s first break came when he sang in the film Sanam Bewafa-1990. Till date he has sung in 30 odd films. More than film singing he is interested in singing Rafi’s songs. So far he has brought out 25 private albums featuring Mohd.Rafi songs in various categories.

Additionally Vipin is much into devotional singing too. He has about 50 albums to his credit made of devotional songs and bhajans of practically every possible God and Saibaba.

Like other modern artistes, Vipin runs his own website also.

Chand ka Tukdaa-1994 was supposed to be a Murder mystery and the cast included Salman Khan, Shridevi,Anupam Kher, Mehmood, Zeba, Shatrughna Sinha (in the role of Dr. Zivago…sounds like the brother of Mogambo).

I have not aeen the film, but from the available information, the story seems to be…

Shyam (Salman Khan) is the son of Mr. S.K.Malhotra, one of the 10 richest persons in the world (Wow !). They live in London,in a hugh Mansion (what else?). one day Mr. Malhotra is murdered. Shyam’s mother sees the killer, but before she could tell it to the Police, she dies of shock. Just before dying ( in the typical Hindi film style), she takes a promise from Shyam that he will return to his roots in India and marry a good Indian girl( but she forgets to tell him about the killer of her husband !).

Like an obedient son, Shyam packs up his bags and comes to India and dutifully falls in love with a beautiful Girl, named appropriately, Radha (Radhe shyam Radhe shyam). They go through the routine of song and dance sequences, many times. Later it transpires that Radha is a mere pawn in the hands of a Gang, whose leader is Malhotra’s murderer. Now with Radha’s help,he wants to kill Shyam and grab all his money (without any legalities ?) .

The film logically ends with Salman Khan’s exposure of solid body, fightings, killings, several stunts and the final arrest of the real Murderer.

Radha and Shyam continue song and dance from where they had left !

This was just one of those ‘ also ran’ films Salman had done early in his career.

ABDUL RASHEED SALIM SALMAN KHAN ,born on 27-12-1965 is the eldest(unmarried) son of yesteryear Hero, actor and a successful script writer Salim Khan. Salman has a Hindu mother(Susheela) and a Christian stepmother(Helen). Lot of stories of his cosmopolitan family-wherein many Hindu-Muslim marriages have taken place- are very well known. A lot has also been written about his stormy Love affairs, his court cases, his philanthropic nature and his celebrations of maha Shivratri and Ganesh Chaturthi at his home.

Salman’s first film,’Bibi ho to aisi ho-1988′ did not do any good to him, but his very second film, “Maine Pyar Kiya”-1989, opposite the vavacious and beautiful debutant Bhagyashree Patwardhan (daughter of the erstwhile King of Sangli state in Maharashtra) was a Blockbuster and a mega Hit. It also won Salman his first Filmfare award.

From 1988 to 2012 he has acted in some 70+ films.

He is also a sort of Record holder for most ‘Guest Appearances’ in 25 films so far. All these were to help the needy producers, done free of charge !

Surprisingly, a little known fact about him is that he has written stories and Screenplays of 3 films and produced 2 films so far.

He made his Debut on TV in 2007 and so far has worked in 12 TV shows as Anchor.

He is one of those ‘New Age’ actors whom I like.

The music for this film was by a pair called Mahesh-Kishore (Mahesh Sharma and Kishore Sharma).

Mahesh Sharma was an assistant to Usha Khanna during 1980-83. He has acted in 2 films, written a TV series and started with his brother as Music Directors from 1986.

Kishore Sharma is the senior partner, having been an assistant to Roshans-Sr. and Jr. from 1964 to 1983, working as an Arranger for 24 films too.

Both brothers started as Music Directors from 1986 and till 2001, had given music to about 20 films.

Although I have selected this song for today, written by Sawan Kumar, I have neither liked its Lyrics nor the music. It was very painful to listen to Lata ji in this song. Actually “Hum aapke hai Kaun” had also come in 1994 and if you see those songs, you will feel the difference. Lata ji sounded very fresh and happy singing those songs. May be the Music Director and Lyrics of the songs made all the difference.

Why the lines in this song should be called ” Lyrics ” is a moot question. ‘ I am very very sorry, main tumhara naam bhool gayee’ sounds like a straight prose sentence. even with music it does not deserve the tag of a Lyric.

But then, in these times, when even ‘Aati kya Khandala” is hailed as a popular song, these comments of mine will put me in extreme minority !

Lyrics

I am very very sorry
tera naam bhool gayi
I am very very sorry
tera naam bhool gayi
tujhse thha kuch kaam,

I am very very sorry
tera naam bhool gayi
aaj milan ka waada tha,
sangam ka iraada tha
aaj milan ka waada tha,
sangam ka iraada tha
itna jaruri kaam kaise bhool gayi

I am sorry
I am very very sorry
tera naam bhool gayi
tujhse tha kuch kaam,
wo kaam bhool gayi
I am very very sorry
tera naam bhool gayi

achha bataao pehle kahaan miley thhe
hum miley thhe ya nain miley thhe
achha bataao pehle kahaan miley thhe
hum miley thhe ya nain miley thhe
na hum miley thhe,
na nain mile the
o my love pehle dil mile the

achcha
na hum mile the,
na nain miley the
o my love pehle dil mile the
meri radha hoke apna shyaam bhool gayi

I am sorry
I am sorry sorry sorry
tera naam bhul gayi
tujhse tha kuchch kam, wo kaam bhool gayi
I am very very sorry
tera naam bhul gayi

gardan jhukaao tum,
zara dil mein to dekho

kyun
gardan jhukaao tum,
zara dil mein to dekho
meri tasvir waha milegi
dekho zara, dekho

jo dil mein hai tasvir,
wo hai meri taqdeer
jo dil me hai tasvir,
wo hai meri taqdeer
wo hai mera saajan,
mere khaawabon ki tabeer
uske pyaar mein to main duniya bhool gayi
I am sorry
I am very very sorry
tera naam bhool gayi
aaj milan ka waada tha,
sangam ka iraada tha
itna jaroori kaam kaise bhool gayi

I am very very sorry tera naam bhool gayi

ok bye bye
hum chale apne ghar
,
arrey arrey arrey
ok bye bye
hum chale apne ghar
,
udhar nahin
aapka to dil mein hai ghar,
to dil ki kasam
sab kuchch yaad aa gaya

mere jaanoo
mujhko tujhpe
pyaar aa gaya
phir na kehna jaanam
ke phir se bhool gayi

I am very very sorry,
oo no no no no no
I am very very happy
naam yaad aa gaya
jo shyam se tha kaam
wo yaad aa gaya
I am very very happy
naam yaad aa gaya
to madhur milan ho jaayen
apna sangam bhi ho jaaye

sab kuchch hai manjoor,
sab kuchch yaad aa gaya
I am very very happy
I am very very happy
we are very very happy
lalalalalala
we are very very happy
lalalalalalla
we are very very happy
lalalalalala
we are very very happy
lalalalalalla

Arunji
In Sanam Bewafa one Vivek sang 2 songs and not Vipin
Mahesh Kishore also gave music in Balwan-1992; Dushman Zamana-1992; Khalnayika-1993; Ek Hi Rasta-1993

Nitin ji,
Kindly check the facts first.

Vivek Verma sang only 1 solo song in Sanam Bewafa-91(Meri jaan chali jaye)

Vipin Sachdeva sang 2 solos (O,hare dupattewali and Be irada nazar) and
2 duets with lata (Mujhe Allah ki kasam and Sanam Bewafa).

Nitin ji,
If you are checking with Hindi geetmala, information given therein is wrong. Please see the videos.

What a surprise to see Arunji with a 1990s song. :-)

When I saw the song title it did not ring a bell at all – but when I heard the first line, I realised I do know this song. I’ve even seen this movie a long time ago, though I don’t remember the details.

Arunji, I agree with you about the lyrics / music – nothing great about it but this was normal in the 1990s. They were a lot of chaalu songs to cater to the young generation of that time. These are all songs that come and go – I wonder how many of them will stand the test of time.
