“Seeta Aur Geeta”(1972) was released when I was at my most impressionable movie watching stage, though my elders did not share my enthusiasm and believed that kids needed to be shielded from movie watching for their own good. The music of “Seeta Aur Geeta”(1972) was so good that I was dying to watch this movie. My desperate prayers worked and I found myself being taken to the movie hall that was screening this movie. That movie hall was a newly built movie hall (called Sandhya Cinema) and “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972) in fact was the very first movie that was screened in this hall.

When we reached the movie hall, I found out much to my chagrin that “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972) was withdrawn and “Zindagi Zindagi” (1972) was being screened from that day onwards. It was a huge body blow to my tender psyche. We watched “Zindagi Zingadi” (1972) alright and I rightly felt let down.

I have not quite recovered from that shock that I received that day 42 years ago. Things have changed a lot from that day onwards and one can now watch this movie on TV as well as on VCD/ DVD and I in fact possess its VCD , but I have not felt like watching the movie again. In any case I at this stage in my life cannot enjoy watching this movie with the same unalloyed joy that I would have felt had I watched this movie in the movie hall at that time.

“Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972) had five songs in it and all the songs were extremely popular. Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the blog. Here is the fifth and final song from the movie. This song is sung by Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised as a roadside tamasha song on Dharmendra, Hema Malini and Master Ripple.

Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

So here is this song which is being discussed today (23 january 2014) which also happens to be the birth anniversary of Ramesh sippy, the director of this movie.

With this song, “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.
