“Taqdeer” (1958) was a Neela Production movie. It was directed by A S Arora. The movie had Karan Dewan, S. K. Prem, Helen, Shyama, Asha Mathur, Madan Puri etc in it.

It can be seen from the starcast that this movie does not have Suraiyya. Even then there were two Suraiyya songs in this movie. No, Suraiyya did not give playback to any actor (s) in this movie. The circumstances that led to her songs finding their way in this movie are rather interesting.

Dhaniram, the music director of “Taqdeer” (1958) had earlier signed up as the music director of a movie called “Apna Khoon” (1955). This movie got shelved and remained unfinished and unreleased. Dhaniram had got two songs recorded in this movie in Suraiyya’s voice which were released as record number N-51743 . It would appear that the people behind “Apna Khoon” had change of plans and they planned “Taqdeer” (1958) instead, shelving “Apna Khoon”. They changed the starcast but decided to retain the songs that were earlier recorded for “Apna Khoon”, including the record number N-51743 mentioned earlier.

When “Taqdeer” (1958) got released, the records of songs earlier recorded for “Apna Khoon” were re released as songs of “Taqdeer” (1958) with the same record numbers.

The first Suraiyya song, viz. Hawaa udaa kar laayi saawan ke sapney has been discussed in the past and it was in the comments to that song that the above mentioned interesting facts emerged thanks to inputs by knowledgeable readers like M/s Arunkumar Deshmukh, Atif M, Sudhir ji etc.

Here is the second Suraiyya song from “Taqdeer” (1958) which was originally recorded for “Apna Khoon” (1955). This song, like the earlier discussed song get played in the movie as a background song, with no one lip syncing it.

Verma Malik is the lyricist. Music is composed by Dhaniram.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-O bewafa karke jafaa (Taqdeer)(1958) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Verma Malik, MD-Dhaniram

Lyrics (Nitin Shah)

aankh purnam
labon pe gham
lagi hai aag seene mein
isi ka aa naam jeena hai
to kya rakha hai jeene mein

o bewafa
kar ke jafa
o bewafa kar ke jafa aa
ye toone kya kiya aa
haay ye toone kya kiya
meri maasoom ulfat ko
ye dhokha kyun diya aa
haay ye toone kya kiya
ho bewafa

bharosa kar ke tujh pe
aas ik dil ko lagaai thhi
tujhe apna bana kar
ek nayi duniya basaai thhi
tujhe dil de ke apna
apni qismat aazmaayi thhi
ee ee ee ee
o bewafa kar ke jafa aa
ye toone kya kiya aa
haay ye toone kya kiya
o bewafa

meri rangeen raaton ka
sahaara todne waale
meri kashti ko toofaanon mein
la kar chhodne waale
meri khushiyaan mere armaan
mera dil todne waale
ae ae ae ae ae
o bewafa kar ke jafa aa
ye toone kya kiya aa
haay ye toone kya kiya
meri masoom ulfat ko
ye dhokha kyun diya aa
haay ye toone kya kiya
o bewafa aa aa
