Friends, it is time to loosen the seat belts, and to start getting ready for the big celebration. Getting into the home stretch now, today we hit the last major milestone before the coveted grand prize that has been beckoning us from the horizon now, for quite some time.

Welcome all friends and readers to the 9900th song on this blog. A splash, a dash, and now just in another flash.

And I could not have searched for a better song than this one today. This song has a very interesting history on this blog. The film is ‘Laal Bangla’ from 1966. The film has six songs in all, and five of them have been posted already. The appearance of these songs on this blog is spread out between 2009 and early this year. The last post for this film came on 4th Feb 2014. Since then, Atul ji has reminded me many times to upload the last song from this film. And I have just been putting it off, telling him that I am saving it for a special occasion. You see the problem is that although the VCD of this film has been released, this particular song had to face the wrath of the cruel editors who cut this song out of the disc version to save space. Really regrettable.

So this song is not available anywhere at this time. So much that even the audio of this song has not yet made it anywhere online. And so, since I have the audio in my collection, I played some hookey and held off Atul ji’s repeated reminders to help him mark this film as ‘All Songs Posted’. I am sure when you hear this song, you will be convinced of my intentions. The mukhdaa of this song says it all – all that I want to say on this occasion today. The 99th century milestone for the blog. And so

khushiyaan hazaar le ke
dil ka qaraar le ke
din aisa aaye baar baar
jiyaaa . . .
deta hai tum ko duaa

May this day be reprised
Again and again and again
Brining with itself
A thousand pleasures
And joy and happiness for the hearts
That is my wish, and my prayers
May this day be reprised
Again and again and again

This greeting is for Atul ji, and for all fellow travelers of this musical bandwagon. Let there be a thousand pleasures shared today. And let this day, and milestones like today’s, be revisited again and again and again on this blog. That is the greetings and prayers that I wish for this blog and all the friends and readers of this blog.

Let there be more. . . and more. . . and more songs brought up here, and be showcased

Let there be a thousand memories of melodies that we cannot forget.

Let there be a thousand smiles that light up the faces and the mind, when we hear these cherished songs once again.

And let there be a thousand congratulations to everyone who is contributing to make this blog the veritable and the unique treasure house of Hindi film music, anywhere in the world.

And so true it is. With more than five and a half million visits to this blog over a period approx six years, this blog is definitely the most favored destination of the folks anywhere in the world, for the lovers of Hindi film music. Folks who have memories but no songs to go along with them, finally arrive on this blog and to find the treasures they have been searching for. Just so many comments have come in over the years, from people who were looking for specific melodies, and finally located them through this blog. And armed with this assurance, people are also now putting in requests for obscure and lost songs that they have not heard for decades. And thankfully, we are able to address a very large percentage of such requests.

Just about 70 months overall and 99 century partnerships. That is a lot of cricket, if it were a cricketing team. In any case, is surely is a huge of real research, compilation, transcription, and web publishing work. I am sure we can do the math and compute an estimate for the aggregate amount of work that has been put into these 9900 publications online. I am sure it is going to be tens of years of person effort that has gone into this, what I may now call as a staggeringly huge data base of Hindi film songs.

With this post, I will take the liberty of two more congratulatory messages, both relating to the regular members of this blog. The first message is for our dear Arun ji, the senior most member of the group of regulars – senior most in more than one ways. I do not talk of age, but I talk of the amount of information, anecdotes, and details that he carries within his memory warehouse. It is for good reason that we talk of him as our in house encyclopedia of Hindi film and film song history. Yesterday, i.e. 9th June is his birth anniversary. All the friends and readers join in to wish him many happy returns of this day. May this association be long lasting and full of more fun and facts and perspectives – all of which are his specialties. His untiring effort to bring in collections of songs in many different series is really very enriching. Thanks Arun ji, for all your efforts, and greetings once again for good health and more celebrations.

The second message, incidentally, is for the junior most member of this group of regulars. Peevesie, as we all know her, is of course the daughter of Peevesie’s Mom :) :). Day before yesterday, I got a call from Peevesie’s Mom. She was calling from Gandhinagar, and both she and Peevesie were there to complete the formalities for her registration at the National Institute of Design. Folks who are familiar with the design industry and the design academia, will instantly recognize NID as the premier top most institution in India for this segment. It is the most desired destination of students of design, and the entrance competition is definitely tough. And so congratulation to Peevesie for getting admission to this premier institution, and to the course work that she desires to specialize in. Many many congratulations to Peevesie and a ton of good wishes for her continued success in her studies and upcoming career in apparel and fashion designing.

To this above note, I must add one more episode. It has been sitting in my list of things to write about, for more than a month now. On 1st May, I got this unexpected call. The caller is Peevesie’s Mom and she informs me that she and Peevesie are going to be in Delhi the next day, and this is in connection with an interview for Peevesie at NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) which is another premier institution in the country, for fashion designing and production. I was really happy to hear this information. As Khyati ji has said on more than one occasions, it is a real pleasure to be able to meet friends in this group, that we know only through articles and comments, or through phone conversations in some cases. And so it was a real pleasure to meet with both of them together, during that visit to Delhi. They visited my home and of course, I showed them the collection of books, music and videos that I have. Ahem :) . It was a real pleasure to meet them in person, and especially Peevesie – a very energetic, an interesting conversationalist, and a very eager seeker. And this meeting also laid to rest another query in my mind. It was emphatically confirmed that the pseudonym Peevesie has nothing at all to do with Polyvinyl Chloride and has everything to do with Harry Potter. Folks who are familiar with series will be aware of the ethereal character called Peeves, who is also known as the Spirit of Chaos. After meeting Peevesie, it all comes together :) :).

And so, with these celebrations to also account for, I bring up this wonderful song from the 1966 film ‘Laal Banglaa’, finally completing the tally of songs for this film. The film is produced and directed by Jugal Kishore. The cast of actors is fairly long, as listed in the Geet Kosh, and includes Prithviraj Kapoor, Sheikh Mukhtar, Sujeet Kumar, Jayanti, Mohan Choti, Heeralal, Jagdev, Sajjan, Jugal Kishore, Shyama, Rajan Haksar, Rachna, Ravikant, Sheila, S K Shukla, R P Kapoor, Babubhai, Jaggi, Desai, Mohini, Renu Sharma, Kishore Sharma, Y P Khanna, Chamanlal, Om Sharma, Pravesh, Rajni, Noorjahan, Rajkumari, Shakuntala, R L Soni etc. etc. The six songs in this film are written by Indiwar, Gulshan Bawra and Vinod Sharma. This song is from the pen of Vinod Sharma. The music compositions are by Usha Khanna, and the melody and the arrangement of the music clearly shows it. Singing voices are of Suman Kalyanpur and Usha Khanna herself.

As mentioned above, the song has been deleted from the disc version, and hence no video is available. As I searched the disc version from start to end, I could easily make out the place where the editor’s scissors have gone to work. The splice in the sequence gives a very noticeable jerk in the storyline. Now I am on the lookout for a VHS version of this film, to get my hands on the video of this song.

Regardless, the audio is very enthusing. The music peps you up. Another foot tapping number – that makes in three in a row for this and last two posts, also incidentally three in a row for Suman Kalyanpur songs. Very interesting, haan.

Listen, enjoy and celebrate. Cheers to Arun ji and Peevesie. And cheers to the entire groups of Atulites. The next big one is now just ninety nine songs away. We should be getting to it within two to three weeks. It is going to be a big celebration. Hugely looking forward to it.

khushiyaan hazaar le ke
dil ka qaraar le ke
din aisa aaye baar baar
jiyaaa . . .
deta hai tum ko duaa
duaa. . .
deta hai tum ko duaa
khushiyaan hazaar le ke
dil ka qaraar le ke
din aisa aaye baar baar
jiyaaa . . .
deta hai tum ko duaa
duaa. . .
deta hai tum ko duaa

jhoome ji jhoome
bahaaron mein jhoome jawaani
haan ye jawaani
muskuraati rahe
gungunaati rahe zindgaani
oye oye zindgaani
muskuraati rahe
gungunaati rahe zindgaani

chhed jaaye koi dil ke taar
jiyaaa . . .
deta hai tum ko duaa
duaa. . .
deta hai tum ko duaa
khushiyaan hazaar le ke
dil ka qaraar le ke
din aisa aaye baar baar
jiyaaa . . .
deta hai tum ko duaa

pooray hon armaan
adhuraa na ho koi sapna
aaa koi sapna
lehraa ke dil mein samaa ke
baney koi apna
oye oye koi apna
lehraa ke dil mein samaa ke
baney koi apna

jaise gulshan mein aaye bahaar
jiyaaa . . .
deta hai tum ko duaa
duaa. . .

khushiyaan hazaar le ke
dil ka qaraar le ke
din aisa aaye baar baar
jiyaaa . . .
deta hai tum ko duaa
duaa. . .
deta hai tum ko duaa

On to 10,000. Ab dilli dur nahi. Eminently reachable.
Yesterday itself i made a parody of the song and sang to my grandson in Houston:
Ishaan ko kya maalum chaahte hai naana naani usko more
wo bechaare dur se dekhe Ishaan machaaye shor
Usha K has been the most under-rated MD. It did not matter to her whether she was given C B A grade movies. She turn trumps with every movie. For her all her children are equals. No bhed-bhav. Thanks Sudhirji

Sorry I am late,

Atul ji & all my friends here

Congratulations on another century.

Sudhir ji
Thanks for the rare song and the article.

Prakash
