I thought that Saira Bano was the first “bold” heroine who had appeared in a bathroom song in a Bollywood movie. I was wrong. She was beaten in it by another actress by more than a decade.

C grade Bollywood movies on 1950s and 1960s failed to get registered in the minds of mainstream audience, but these movies certainly had some audience and they must have been making enough money to stay in business.

I have noticed that Bollywood movies have songs for almost all occasions. There are happy songs, there are sad songs, there are party songs, there are songs of loneliness. Then there are boat songs, rain songs, festival songs etc. In fact, I have discovered some fight songs, where the hero fights villains while singing.

“Anubhav” (1971) was a small budget movie which was not only different, it was in fact far ahead of its time. Not just the laymen, even the movie critics had yet to mature to appreciate such movies.

My regular readers may have noticed that I classify my songs based on the place where the song is picturised. Thus we have had car song, rail song, even elephant song, in this blog.
This particular song is a bathroom song by my definition because it is sung in a bathroom. Unlike most bathroom songs which are sung by amateur bathroom singers, this bathroom song is sung by no less a singer than Lata. What is more, this must be one of the sweetest and most melodious songs that Lata must have sung in her career. At least that is what I have always felt about this song.
