We have discussed over two thousand songs of Rafi in this blog which adds up to just over 40 % of all the songs that he has sung in Hindi movies. Many of these songs are extremely well known songs, but at the same time we have also come across some totally unheard of songs. It no longer surprises me or regulars of this blog when we come across Rafi songs that we had never heard before.

Just the other day I wrote in the comments,” ALL that is produced after 1970 in Hindi Films is not bad as much as ALL that is produced before 1970 is not good”. My reference was to the overall quality of films, like story, acting, comedy or music etc.

I was at Jabalpur when this blog was started. After about 18 months later, I shifted to another -pur in another state and I was based there for two years. Now I have shifted to yet another -pur in yet another state.

Gulzar, a name that will bring to mind poems and songs of unsullied beauty and edifying simplicity. A play on words that sound commonplace, and yet the meaning and the message they carry are so profound and endearing, that can make emotions swell in the heart. Be it the perky “Mora Gora Ang Layi Le” from film ‘Bandini’ (1963), or the poingnant “Koi Hota Jisko Apna Hum Apna Keh Letey Yaaro” from ‘Mere Apne’ (1971), or the spirited “Huzoor Is Qadar Bhi Na Itthlaa Ke Chaliye” from ‘Maasoom’ (1983), or even the belligerent “Chhod Aaye Hum Wo Galiyaan” from ‘Maachis’ (1996). The spectrum of sentiments is captured fully, across the emotions as well as across the decades, something that speaks volumes of the talent of this wonderful poet. “Ham Panchchi Ek Daal Ke” (1957), as the title suggests was a movie stressing the fact that India represents unity in diversity. This movie was a children’s movie and the songs of this movie were picturisation on children.

“Asli Naqli” (1962) is a L B Films production and it was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji. The movie had Dev Anand, Sadhana, Hari Shivdasani, Sandhya Roy, Nazir Hussain, Anwar, Mukri, Keshto Mukherjee, Leela Chitnis in it.

“Miss Bombay” (1957) was not about a female beauty queen, but about a bus called “Miss Bombay”, which is driven by Ajit in the movie. This movie was produced by N C films and it was directed by Kedar Kapoor. The movie had Ajit, Nalini Jaiwant, Bhagwan,Tiwari,Rehman,Vijaylaxmi,Bhudo Adwani,Pravin Pal etc in it. This movie may have led to some fan following among other B grade movie makers, because movies with similar titles, viz. Miss Punjab Mail, Miss Toofaan Mail etc. were produced the next year.
