Helen has been the most well known item song dancer in Hindi movies. But she was not the first one. The original item song dancer in Hindi movies was Cuckoo. In fact, it was Cuckoo who was instrumental in getting Helen her initial breaks in Hindi movies. So in a way Helen was Cuckoo’s protege.

Music director Roshan was born on 16 july in the year 1917. He had a very successful career lasting nearly 18 years before he was snatched away at a relatively young age of only 50, when he was at the peak of his musical prowess.

From late 1950s onwards, we had Helen as the dancing sensation. Before her, we had Cuckoo. In a way, Cuckoo was the fore runner of Helen.
