“Krorepati” (1961) was a Saigal Brothers Production. It was produced by Om Prakash Saigal and directed by Mohan Saigal. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Shashikala (Producer’s wife), Kumkum, K. N. Singh, Anoop Kumar, Mirza Musharaff, Radhakishan, Haroon, S. Bannerjee, Ramlal, Shamlal, Brahm Bharadwaj, Daya Devi, Pal Sharma, Prem, Dev Chand etc in it.

Today (1 august) is the birth anniversary of Meena Kumari ( 1 august 1932- 31 march 1972). It is unimaginable to realise that she did not even reach the age of 40 ! She achieved so much in her brief stay in this world and she went on to become a legend.

1959 was the busiest year in the career of music director N Dutta. That year, seven films with music composed by him, were released. (Six of these films are already represented in this blog. ‘Naach Ghar’ is one film that is awaiting entry here). And the music of these films is notable and still remembered – films like ‘Black Cat’, ‘Dhool Ka Phool’, ‘Didi’, ‘Bhai Bahen’, ‘Mr. John’, and ‘Jaalsaaz’.

Kishore Kumar made his debut as a playback singer in 1948 when he sang for Dev Anand in “Ziddi” (1948). For nearly two decades after that, he remained a marginal singer who only sang for himself and occasionally for others (read Dev Anand).

Ghar ki raunaq hai ghar waali

I have posted two songs of contrasting moods from ‘Bandi” (1957) in the past. One was a comedy song, and the other was a poignant song. Both were sung by Kishore Kumar and picturised on himself.

Kamaata hoon bahut kuchh

Bollywood movie makers often tend to have same titles as that of old movies. For instance, I am aware of three movies titled “Adhikar”. The most well known of them for me is the movie of 1971 which was a musical blockbuster ( though the movie itself did not do well). There was another movie by this name in 1986.
