While looking up information about Naushad, I found out that he made his debut as a music director in 1940 in a movie called “Prem Nagar”. In this movie he composed as many as 13 songs. Those are the days when actors themselves used to sing their own songs.

“Shaheed” (1965) was a movie based on Bhagat Singh’s life and most songs were patriotic songs. Even other songs of this movie evoke patriotic fervour, such is the feeling that this movie brings about in its listeners.

I had posted as many as four songs from “Madhumati” (1958) in the past, but I was repeatedly being reminded by a few regulars of this blog that several songs of “Madhumati” were yet to be posted. And they were right of course.

It has been pointed out by my readers that the song “Ramaiyya vasta vaiyya” from “Shree 420″ (1955) is missing from the blog. Not just this song, I am sure many great gems of yesteryears are missing from the blog. But I will gradually add all these songs. The fact that so many great songs are still missing from this blog despite the blog boasting of over 2600 songs is an indication that there are far too many great songs that were created during the golden era of Bollywood movie music.

In 1950s, Shankar Jaikishan tended to use Lata’s voice for all female playback songs. It is alright if they had to use her voice for one actress, but there were occasions when more than one actress in the same movie lip synced to Lata’s voice. Fortunately, they did not do so in the same song.
