I have thought up an idea of doing a series on ‘desert songs’. Unfortunately most of the famous desert songs are already posted, and I am left with a residue of songs from the 80′s only. I have myself written the post of the songs of ‘Laila Majnoon’ (1976) most of which are in the desert. I request readers to help me in this regard and provide the name of such songs picturized in the desert from 50′s and 60′s .

“Utsav” (1984) was produced by Shashi Kapoor and directed by Girish Karnad. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Rekha, Amjad Khan, Shankar Nag, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Shekhar Suman, Neena Gupta, Anuradha Patel, Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor, Sanjana Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, Harish Patel, Yunus Parwez, Satish Kaushik etc in it.

“Pyaasa Saawan” (1981) was a Tirupati Pictures Production. It was produced by Prasanna Kapoor (Jeetendra’s brother). Dasari Narayana Rao was the director. The movie had Jeetendra, Moushumi Chatterjee, Reena Roy, Aruna Irani, Vinod Mehra, Madan Puri, Deven Verma, Ashalata Wabgaonkar etc in it.

This ghazal was from the movie Gaman (1979). It was an art movie, and art movies those days tended to have ghazals in them. In fact, art movies often had lots of ghazals which became quite popular.
