Till now I have viewed and listened a number of songs on this most entertaining and informative blog relating to the Indian cinema of yester-years. I have deliberately not mentioned it as 'Bollywood' not only that it is unethical to call something by its imitated name but also because several songs pertaining to the movies made in eastern and southern states of India have also been discussed herein. Incidentally, now that 'Bombay' is now 'Mumbai' why shouldn't we have now 'Mollywood' in place of 'Bollywood'. In any case, the present song 'Meri aan Bhagwaan' is one of the songs which has particularly attracted my attention for its superb quality in all aspects. It is amazing to note that the whole song of 3.29 minute duration has been completed in just 13 or 14 shots and the main shots rendered by the child artist Satish Vyaas as first, second and third stanzas are as long as 41, 45 and 42 seconds, respectively. He has faltered not even once and one can never fail to observe that his facial expressions are perfectly in tune with the lyrics at any given point of time, be these of praying, complaining, expressing anger, revolting, demanding, warning or of submission. In between, a couple of shots showing his curious inspection of the critical patient in the hospital ward have also been incorporated. Vasant Desai's composition and Geeta Dutt's voice so peculiarly transformed to suit an angry boy in distress over the seeming ruthlessness of God have in their own way added to the overall quality of this number. I doubt if such kind of perfection can be achieved today despite all kinds of electronic, computer and other advanced technologies available to our film and TV industry as well as this and that kind of awards and rewards so lavishly bestowed upon the 'artists'. I may be corrected in my assertions that in the present times this song with such professional perfection would have been completed in not less than a hundred shots. Anyway, thanks to Mr. Atulji that I have not only refreshed the memory of this exquisite song but have also been able to give out my views about it.
