Movies-All songs covered

This blog has several movies where all songs have been discussed but we are not aware of that fact. Likewise, there are several movies where just one or two songs remain to be discussed. Going through the list of songs here and comparing it with the HFGK list of songs is an Herculean task. We are extremely thankful to Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia, who has taken up this huge task.

In this page, I will copy the list provided by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh. This will serve as a handy reference for the contributors to send their contributions. Those contributors who may have sent a few of these lyrics in the past are requested to alert me about them by resending them, so that we may be able to discuss such songs on priority.

As the gaps get filled by posting of the songs, I will strike them off from the list and mention that the movie now have all the songs in the list by moving them up in the list of movies containing all the songs.

Arun Ji and Atul Ji.. hats off, great to see this page. Very useful. Thank you.

i like to see songs from Lal Nishan.
Allso add all the songs form Shirdi ke sai baba.
Pramod

I might be wrong, but I guess Basant Bahar (1956) has 2 more songs (11 totally), the other 2 songs have been sung by Bhimsen Joshi.. Laage Laag and Lagan Gune Gune Gaaye.

Pradeep ji,
We have to have some standard benchmark to judge the no. of songs from a film.HFGK is a well researched document which we have accepted as a bench mark. Not that this does not have any mistakes, but by and large,it is correct.
As per the HFGK,Basant Bahar all songs are posted.
Then the question comes, how come there are more songs of the film on YT ?
The answer is-
there are several reasons for this to happen, like
1) Some times deleted songs are hosted on YT
2) Some times version songs are hosted.
3) sometimes fabricated songs/morphed songs are mischiveously hosted. There are many such cases presently on YT,where songs are diff, actors are diff and film’s name is given wrong.
4)sometimes background songs are hosted, for which NO RECORDS are issued.
5) sometimes the songs taken from the films directly are different in lyrics, music or the singers. This happens as songs for commercial purposes are recorded separately.
considering all this, for the sake of uniformity,we go by the HFGK info.
I hope I have been able to give a proper & satisfacory explanation.

Pradeep ji, Arun ji

I agree with Arun ji in that the HFGK is a painstakingly resesarched document, and is by far the most accurate compilation of its type available anywhere for Hindi film music.

Does that mean it is infallible? No, there are cases where corrections have been discovered, and many are due to the reasons that Arun ji has already listed above. But there is one more reason that I want to add. There are many cases, especially with the films from 30s and 40s, and some in later years also, for which the compilers have not been able to locate the complete information for some films. So, in the Geet Kosh also, there are a number of films for which the information is either partial or in some cases even totally missing. The film names exist because they have been taken from the gazette of Govt. of India where in all the films that have been certified by the Censor Board are listed. (NOTE: and then there also are many unreleased films, for which information could be located. For such unreleased films, the song listings and other informations can never be verified as complete).

For the list of songs and other related information for individual films, Harmandir ji has relied on the information booklets that the producers printed for the films they created. Now, in most cases the details in these booklets are accurate. But in some cases, they are not. E.g. the list of songs is almost invariably the list of songs that are released on records. There are many cases where a piece of musical poetry or even a full song is contained in the film but for various reasons, it never got released on records. Such songs are mostly not listed in the booklets. Atul ji and Arun ji will remember our discussion on a song from the film Punarmilan (1964). There was some confusion about the song details. So when I got into researching this problem, I ended up seeing the film, and found that there are four pieces of poetry, which have been rendered as short songs in the film, but they are not listed anywhere as songs for this film. I am sure there will be many such cases in many films.

Another situation was the missing song from the film Amar Raj (1946). Once again when I researched it, I actually got the original 78 rpm record and on playing it, I found that there are two separate songs on it, rather than one long song as was indicated on the lable and also as listed in the Geet Kosh.

So there will be such corrections that we need to be aware of. I have discussed this with Surjit Singh ji when I had met him some days ago. He is of the opinion that such songs must be identified, extracted and added to the list of songs for the film. I have also elevated this discussion to Harmandir ji. Harmandir ji will be in Delhi again first week of May, and this is one of the issues we want to discuss and resolve.

Pradeep ji,

It should not be difficult to confirm your information re ‘Basant Bahaar’. The film is available, and can be viewed to verify the additional songs. If there are such additional songs existing, my opinion is that we must extract these and make them available as distinct song offerings from the film.

Another interesting comment. I am sure most of us will know that in the early years of talking cinema, there are many cases where the films are known to have included a huge number of songs. E.g. for the film ‘Indrasabha’ (1932), 69 songs are listed. In the HFGK details one can find many films in that era with more than 30 songs. Having more than 15 songs was almost a norm in those days. I discussed this with Nalin Ji Shah when he was in Delhi last time. What he disclosed is that these songs are not the type of songs we are familiar with. These songs were just simply 4 or 6 or 8 lines of poetry, sung to music, and it got listed as a song. (NOTE: this would go back to the folk theatre concept, where in the dialogue delivery is sometimes prosaic and sometimes in form of verses). Even the first song ever from Alam Ara (1931) “De De Khuda Ke Naam Pe Pyaare” is a simple verse of just four lines.

The point I make is that these small pieces of poetry used to be listed as disctinct songs earlier. The question is whether we should continue with that method now also? I think it is a good question to debate in this forum.

Sudhir

Another suggestion, the lists are small now, but later it will help if we could have a S,No, so we know how many movies with A titles have all the songs discussed. Thank you.

Atul ji, Arun ji,

This initiative is really great, to represent the complete list of songs of a film.

Thanks for your effort to make this information available. :)

Hullo atul & Arunji
after i sent the lyrics for the sad version of the lullaby of “Brahmachari” i found that atulji has already posted that part of the song along with the other version of the song. so how does one count the complete ness of the post for any particular movie. this is the case with many other songs too. that means if there are multiple versions to a song they follow one another in the same post. i think we shd take this also into account when going abt this exercise
thank you

You are right. We in this blog post multiple versions of a song in one post and that way many movies already have all the songs covered. I will accordingly make the necessary changes in the list.

Atul Ji, I have a suggestion, on the top of this page, we could have a big counter, which could have the current number of movies where all songs have been covered :).

I think songs of 1966 Do badan were fully covered. Arunji Please confirm this one.

ALL songs of DO BADAN-1966 are posted.Confirmed.

Thank you for the confirmation Arun Ji, Another Yippeee! would not hurt ;).

Arun Ji, if you confirm if all songs of Do Badan has been covered, I will have another Yippee! moment :).

We have discussed 9 songs from the movie Awaara (1951), are there any other songs to be discussed from the movie? Arun Ji please help.

There are total 11 songs in Aawaaraa-51.

Wow, so 2 more to go. Then Yippee! time ;). Thank you Arun Ji.

According to me,all 4 Songs of 1968 Baharon Ki Manzil were posted. Arun ji Please Help.
According to me all 4 songs are sung by Lata Mangeshkar(which are posted in the blog), which are picturised on screen.

Any one know other songs of Baharon ki Manzil ????

All 4 covered.

Arun Sir ji

Thank you very much for the confirmation.

Regards
Prakash

Hello,I want to make an important correction in your recent correspondance ( I pasted your line below). Nearly all of us make this mistake and it should be avoided. Today (11 december 2012) is the 90th birthday of Dilip Kumar.. May I kindly remind you and all the readers that it is not his Birthday but birth Anniversary.Every one has only ONE birthday—- the day one is borne. What we chronically celebrate it is actually Anniversary of it, get it?Sincerely,Pramod. Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2012 07:47:39 +0000 To: pramod_97@hotmail.com

Pramod ji,
Technically you may be right, nay, you are right, however, colloquially it has been used (the word BIRTHDAY) to denote a date which reminds everyone about the person’s Birth.
The word Anniversary somehow has been used,by tradition,to denote the death date.(and also marriage dates).
Some words though used not so correctly, continue to be in use.A great example is the word “Prepone”.There is NO such word in any English Dictionary. The correct word to be used is ‘Advance’
e.g. I preponed my departure date is not right.
It should be ‘I advanced my departure date’.
But Prepone word is commonly in use for a long period.
Similar is the case with Birthday word.

Is Christmas coming early this year? ;) So many Yippee! moments waiting to be confirmed. At this rate we would reach 200 movies where all songs from the movie have been covered by the end of the year :).

Teen Deviyaan(1965) has got one song “Khwaab ho tum yaa koyee haqeeqat-2nd part” to be covered .Whether 2nd part has got the same or different set of lyrics. If the 2nd part got the same lyrics, then all the songs of the movie has been covered.(That`s according to me.But confirmation required)

Regarding,Teesri kasam(1966) also, all the song of the movie covered except a Nautanki song(the lyrics are with you Atulji) and whether Suman kalyanpur version of “Duniyaa banaanewaale” has got different set of lyrics ??? or that version has been treated as a seperate song ??

Prakash ji/ Atul ji,

Teen Deviayan-1965…. one song,II part of ‘Khwaab ho tum ya…’ is still remaining. It has different Lyrics.
Teesri kasam-1966…. ALL 9 songs are covered as per HFGK. There is no mention of Suman Kalyanpur version of ‘Duniya bananewale’ in HFGK at all.
-AD

Here is the slow version of ‘khwaab ho tum ya koyi haqeeqat’ at the begnining of the clip , with the same mukhdaa and a different 2 line stanza, i.e.

subhaa pe jis tarah shaam ka ho gumaan
zulfon mein ek chehraa kuchh zaahir kuchh nihaan

This is a version song only which should be included in the post of the main song.

All songs of Mere apne 1971 covered except Manna Dey sung song:
“Ho Ganga ki bhari godi mein, Ganga ki raahi chale re”.No youtube (audio or video)link is available for this particularl song. Whether this particular song was edited out or not at all picturised ???

Atul ji, Pradeep ji,

All songs of film Godaan (1963) are posted on the blog. The film has seven songs and all seven are here. HFGK has an 8th listing, but that is only for title music, not a song.

Rgds
Sudhir

Sudhir Ji, thank you for the update, I was looking through the list of songs in Godaan (1963), and I find that “Hiya Jarat Rahat Din Rain” has 2 versions and we have only covered one of the versions. Once we cover the other version we could Yippeeee! the movie :D.

Arunji,
Satyakaam-69 has three songs, at least in my CD. And various websites confirms that info. Atulji has already posted those three songs. Now, aap ki mohar chaahiye if we are ready for Yippeeee moment.

I just checked Lata`s version of “O mere shah-e-khubaan” from 1966 Love in Tokyo, the Lata version lyrics are same as that of Rafi`s same song version.I think (of course, confirmation required), we have covered all the songs of 1966 Love In Tokyo.

Atulji,
We have covered all songs of Anarkali-53. You already have mentioned this in the last song-muhabbat mein aise kadam….. Sirf color code karna baaki hai.

According to me, all the songs of ,Aakhri Khat(1966)were covered. Before painting the movie name red, Someone please confirm the correctness of the fact.

All songs completed. (Aakhri Khat-66)

Arunji,
Can you check if we have covered all songs of Prince-69?
Thanks.

One song remaining-
Kar le na pyar kisi se-Rafi

Whether there is any more songs are left to be covered from the
1970 movie ANAND.
Or is it time to paint the movie name with red colour ???

looks like Atul has been very busy doing what normal people do—- busy at work family etc. that is y he is concentrating on posting songs only…. he has to also update the “list of songs moviewise” from sometime in December. many of the songs he has posted in the last few weeks are missing from the above list. and i see that we have covered one more century recently & that we r back to 5-6 songs daily. so now i hope he finds to update all lists also :-))

Yes work is coming in the way of my blogging. But I have been updating the lists regularly. Last update was done yesterday itself.

All songs completed

The above comment should be All songs of Anand-70 completed.

Whether there are any more songs left to be covered from the Hindi movie KORA KAGAZ(1974) ???
Arun jee
Please confirm or is it time to paint the movie name in RED ??

Where is out Pradeep jee, Sir I am missing your comments, please appear atleast once in a week on the blog.

prakash

Yes,all songs covered.

Thank you Arun jee

Regards
Prakash

Atul ji,

Film Dulari-1949 All songs are posted.
-AD

Atul ji,
Film Awara-1951 had 11 songs, out of which 1 song- Pativrata seeta mai ko toone diya vanvaas by Rafi was only in the film.No record was made of it. Except this all other songs are posted. The song ‘ ghar aaya mera pardesi is actually in two parts- a) tere bina aag ye chandani and b) ghar aaya mera pardesi… Both parts feature on the Blog as 1 song( though its VDO is not working).
I think you can count Awara as a ‘ all songs completed film’.
-AD

Atul ji…tremendous work put in by your team will serve next generations with readymade info. Some observations :
1. Malahar songs are composed by Roshan and not by Naushad ( see yr list of completed films ).
2. C Ramchandra-composed films number very few…Very disappointing indeed//. Films like Khajana, Sangita, Paigham, Stree, Navarang, Sarhad, Shagufa, Sharada, Devata, Insaniyat, …and several such films which earned lakhs of rupees to their producers…but these songs are not yet covered by u. I have not lost hopes, this vaccuum will be filled in soon.
3. I have several CR film songs with me. If u wish I can email several of them. Pl let me know how to email them to u…to which address ?

Dear Atul Saheb,
Recently seen one Hindi movie ‘Dhoti,Lota aur Chowpaty’ (1975)produced and acted also by Mohan Chotti(Comedian)with many other Indian films stars(probably as guest artists) and Music given by Shamji Ghanshamji(never heard this name before) and many veteran lyricists have written songs, some songs are quite good, it is worth adding in this
Atulsongspedia.
Thanks

I am aware of the movie as well as the music director. In fact its song(s) have also been sent to me in the past.
