I have so far discussed over 4100 songs in this blog, and I still feel that I have only scratched the surface. There are still tens of thousands of great songs that belong here. In fact, many well known songs are yet to figure in this blog. Hopefully, with time, all the missing songs will also appear here.

“Jahaan Ara” (1964) was a movie based on the life of Jahaan Ara,daughter of Emperor Shahjahaan. The movie, when it was released , was a monumental failure, and the movie was withdrawn from movie halls in less than a week.

This was a big setback for the movie, and especially its music. Madan Mohan, the music director had given his best in the music of this movie but then seeing his music suffering as a result of box office failure of the movie was something that he was quite used to. Still , it came as a big shock to him.

I have discussed one song from this movie in the past. Here is another song from this movie. this song is sung by Rafi and Suman Kalyanpur. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. This song is picturised on Bharat Bhushan and Mala Sinha.

It is interesting to see Madan Mohan going for the voice of Suman Kalyanpur instead of Lata in this song. Is there any reason why he did this ? He of course used Lata’s voice in other songs of this movie.

Song-Baad mudaat ke ye ghadi aayi (Jahaan Ara) (1964) Singers-Rafi, Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

baad muddat ke ye ghadi aayi
aap aaye to zindagi aayi
baad muddat ke ye ghadi aayi
aap aaye to zindagi aayi
ishq mar mar ke kaamyaab huaa
aaj ek zarraa aaftaab huaa
aaj ek zarraa aaftaab huaa

shukriyaa hai huzoor aane kaa
shukriyaa hai huzoor aane kaa
waqt jaagaa gareeb-khaane kaa
ek zamaane ke baad deed huyi
eid se pehle meri eid huyi
eid se pehle meri eid huyi

eid kaa chaand aaj dekhaa hai
eid kaa kyun na aitbaar aaye
haath uthaakar duaa ye kartaa hoon
eid phir aisi baar-baar aaye
eid phir aisi baar-baar aaye

din zamaane kaa raat apni hai
is ghadi qaaynaat apni hai
ishq par husn ki inaayat hai
mere pehloo mein meri jannat hai
mere pehloo mein meri jannat hai

faasle waqt ne mitaa hi diye
dil tadapte huye milaa hi diye
kaash is waqt maut aa jaaye
zindagaani pe aake chhaa jaaye
zindagaani pe aake chhaa jaaye

baad muddat ke ye ghadi aayi
aap aaye to zindagi aayi

Madan Mohan had the misfortune of composing songs for movies that often failed at the box office.
