Two things have emerged from the introduction. One of Ramesh Shastri, the lyricist little known really. Only other song penned by him I find on web is from Har Har Mahadev (1950) (ka.nkar ka.nkar se mai.n puuchhuu.N rendered by Geeta Dutt). Second is regarding much talked about subject – “Lal Dupattewali” Bimala Kumari .. here too little known personality. Please allow me to mention a little about it. Most of the web sites do mention her name as Pushpa Bimla.. except that she acted in only Barsaat no more details are emerging.
Beautiful song from a movie that made high marks in more than one aspect.

Waht a beautiful song! And how lovely the lady looks! I came across this video of “Dheere Se Aaja” from the 1952 film Albela:
Do you think this is the same Bimla Kumari?

it’s amazing how underrated she was… wonder why that was.

oh, and on youtube where they posted the song, they are mistaking her for Nimmi !! now Nimmi is fab looking too (like the hollywood Russel).. but they don’t even look anything alike.
it’s too bad Ms. Kumari did not even get a mention or billing in the film… hmmm..

[…] of Meena Kumari is actually white or some other colour. I recall that the laal dupatta in the song Hawa me udta jaaye mora laal dupatta malmal kaa(Barsaat) too looked white in the picturisation. So you can never tell about the colours worn by actors in […]

Atul ji,
This timeless song is written by Ramesh Shastri.
Recently I came accross an article in a Gujarathi paper about him. Here it is in brief-
Ramesh Shastri was a sanskrit scholar who did his Ph.D from Benares University. When Raj kapoor advertised that he wanted songs for his new film Barsat,Dr.Ramesh shastri sent him 4 songs and RK selected’Hawa mein udta jaaye…’
.After this Ramesh also wrote 2 more songs for ‘Har Har Mahadev- 1950′,one of which was’
Kankar kankar se main poochhoon Shankar mera kahan hai..’ sung by Geeta Dutt. This too became very famous.RK called Ramesh to Bombay many times, but he was not interested in Film world.
He was a religious person and spent his life in teaching Sanskrit in many colleges in Gujarat. He died of cerebral palsy on 30-4-2010 in Ahmedabad.
Secondly, the Bimla kumari of the above song and the one featuring in Prem Nagar-1940 songs are different.Sometime back I wrote about both artists already.

He wrote devotional songs for almost all films before Barsaat ans was already well know in the film industry at that time.

He had 5 daughters and one son.
I am his son.
