Is mod se jaate hain

Posted on: November 22, 2008

When I began to listen to farmaishi programmes on Radio, I would pay close attention to the details about the song that were mentioned by the announcer.

Sometimes the announcer would say- “ab aap suniye ye dogaana film XYZ se”. And I would feel so happy that I was going to listen not one but two songs from the movie XYZ.

I would feel so let down when only one song would be played despite the announcement.

When this hapened a few times, I did a research on it, and found that dogaana meant “duet” and not “two songs”.

Here is a “dogaana” from “Aandhi”, sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata. Lyrics of this movie were by Gulzar and the music director was R D Burman.

Coming to the movie itself, the story of the movie is very much inspired from the life of Indira Gandhi, but the movie maker pulled a fast one on everyone including the censors and called this movie as “Aandhi” instead of calling it “Gandhi”. And everyone was duly fooled as well, even though this movie was released during the era of the dreaded emergency.

In this song, Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen play Feroz Gandhi and Indira Gandhi respectively.

So here is this popular dogaana from “Aandhi”.

Song- Is mod se jaate hain (Aandhi) (1975) Singers-Lata, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD- R D Burman

Lyrics

aaa aaa aaa
is mod se jaate hain
is mod se jaate hain
kuchh sust qadam raste kuchh tez qadam raahen
kuchh sust qadam raste kuchh tez qadam raahen
patthar ki haweli ko sheeshe ke gharaundon mein
tinkon ke nasheman tak is mod se jaate hain
aaaa
is mod se jaate hain

aandhi ki tarah udkar ik raah guzarti hai
aandhi ki tarah udkar ik raah guzarti hai
sharmaati huyi koyi qadmon se utarti hai
in reshmi raahon mein ik raah to wo hogi
tum tak jo pahunchti hai is mod se jaati hai
is mod se jaate hain…

ik door se aati hai paas aake palatati hai
ik door se aati hai paas aake palatati hai
ik raah akeli si rukti hai na chalti hai
ye sochke baithi hoon ik raah to wo hogi
tum tak jo pahunchti hai is mod se jaate hain
is mod se jaate hain
kuchh sust qadam raste kuchh tez qadam raahen
patthar ki haweli ko sheeshe ke gharondon mein
tinkon ke nasheman tak is mod se jaate hain
aaaa is mod se jaate hain

lol at “dogaana”.
Fantastic song…one of my 1970s favourites.
Very deep lyrics.
I remember Saurabh explaining the lyrics on CF for this one.

Yours is indeed a very informative blog.I’ve read many posts from this blog.
This is a beautiful song. There was another reason for naming this film Aandhi instead of Gandhi-it was produced by J.Om Prakash. All the movies under his banner begin with alphabet ‘A’
