Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Chaand si mahbooba ho meri kab aisa maine socha tha

Posted on: January 28, 2009

This Mukesh song is from a 1965 movie called ‘Himalay ki God mein” . This song is written by Anand Bakshi and the music was composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Thiis song was picturised on picturesque mountainous locations of Himalayas, on Manoj Kumar and Mala Sinha.

It is a romantic song sung with his characteristic X factor by Mukesh. No wonder, this song is yet another Mukesh classic.

I heard this song for the first time in a “Vishesh jaimala” radio programme in 1975 which was presented by cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. The only song that I remember being played on that programme was this song “Chand si mahbooba ho meri kab aisa maine socha tha.”

As it turns out, Raja, the big farmaish sender of this blog and my contemporary, had also listened to that programme, and he too remembered having listened to ths song in that programme.

So, here is this song for the readers of this blog. And as mentioned, this song is for old times sake too, when I and Raja, both school kids, located in different places, listened to the same song in the same programme, some 34 years ago.

Song-Chand si mahbooba ho meri kab aisa maine socha tha (Himalay ki god mein) (1965) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD- Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

Chand si mahbooba ho meri
kab aisa maine socha tha
haan tum bilkul waisi ho
jaisa maine socha tha
Chand si mahbooba ho meri
kab aisa maine socha tha
haan tum bilkul waisi ho
jaisa maine socha tha

na kasme hain na rasme hain
na shikwe hain na waade hain
na kasme hain na rasme hain
na shikwe hain na waade hain
ek soorat bholi bhali hai
do naina seedhe saade hain
do naina seedhe saade hain
aisa hi roop khayaalon me tha
jaisa maine socha tha
haan tum bilkul waisi ho
jaisa maine socha tha

meri khushiyan hi naa baante
mere gham bhi sahna chahe
meri khushiyan hi naa baante
mere gham bhi sahna chahe
dekhe na khwaab wo mahlo ke
mere dil me rahna chaahe
mere dil me rahna chaahe
iss duniya me kaun tha aisa jaisa maine socha tha
haan tum bilkul waisi ho jaisa maine socha tha
Chand si mahbooba ho meri
kab aisa maine socha tha
haan tum bilkul waisi ho
jaisa maine socha tha
haan tum bilkul waisi ho
jaisa maine socha tha

Indeed !
What a co-incidence !
That both of us, in two different parts of the country, listened to that particular Vishesh Jaimala of Sunil Gavaskar. And both of us remember this particular song form that airing. Something special.

Come to think of it, if you are able to get hold of that Gavaskar Vishesh Jaimala (like you managed some of the others) that would be great !

This song is another beauty from Mukesh – he sang so many good songs for Kalyanji-Anandji (just like he did for SJ).

In fact, I think Mukesh probably has the max hit songs % of any singer. Rafi has sung many fantastic songs – but a few forgettable ones too. Same for Kishore. Not the singer’s fault – just the song is often no great shakes.

But Mukesh songs, even the not-famous ones, just linger on in your mind after you listen to them. And you feel like listening to them again.

[…] programme in 1975. I listened to this programme. I remember the fact that Gavaskar played the song Chand si mahbooba ho meri kab aisa maine socha tha(Himalay ki god mein)(1965). Some 30 years later in 2005, when I mentioned this fact in a forum where both Raja and I are […]

beautiful song :)..cud any1 translate it 😉

I saw a movie today – “Kapoor and Sons” and the hero’s father Rajat Kapoor sings this song in the movie, remembering that he sang this song to his wife Ratna Pathak Shah during their honeymoon! Nice movie and good effort on the part of the movie makers to bring in an old song into the conversation!

In fact even I’d heard that vishesh Jaimala on a sunday afternoon in Delhi. This song was not only little master’s favorite song but he dedicated it to his wife marshneil gavaskar in the programme.

I also heard vishesh Jaimala programme in which Sunil Gavasker termed it as the being his most favourite one . As far as I remember the very programme was broadcast in June 1975 .
Prior to that I had watched this film in 1971 in our college auditorium . This song is really one of Mukeshji’s classias.Further Shashikala’s acting was also good in the film .

Here’s a special treat for Atul Sa’ab, Raja Sa’ab & All. Nowadays, “VIVIDH BHARTI – DESH KI SIRILEE DHARKAN” has been celebrating her Glorious 60th anniversary as launched on 2nd Oct 1957. Hence, these days this radio channel rebroadcast some very special and rare recordings and interviews from its ANMOL KHAZANA i.e. library. This is one such HEERA, VISHESH JAIMALA by SUNIL GAVASKAR “SUNNY”

A very very thanks to VIvidh Bharti to rebroadcast it and also special thanks to Jitender Siwach Sa’ab – A Die Heart Radio Fan to make it available on Internet by uploading it on YT.

Thanks a lot for this link. Indeed this is the very same Vishesh Jaimala that I heard in 1975.

But Sir, I have doubt that whether this is same you heard in 1975 or some different as the song
https://atulsongaday.me/2010/07/29/itni-jaldi-kyaa-hai-gori-saajan-ke-ghar-jaane-ki/
missing here.

It is exactly the same programme that I heard in 1975, a few months after West Indies tour of India in 1974-75. In fact, the words of Gavaskar himself indicate it where he mentions that he was newly married at that time (he was married in 1974), and that Karsan Ghavri was the new heart throb of girls (Ghavri made his test debut in the third test of that series.)

One can notice a cut in the presentation where Gavaskar talks about He and Solkar no longer being the heart throb of female fans. It is there that a full song may have got deleted.

No words to say about your memory. Just a dead ball from my side

Here is the list of all 8 Songs of Sunil Gavaskar ki Pasand
