Tera kaam hai jalna parwaane

Posted on: February 9, 2009

Name of the movie (Paapi) does not ring a bell and the music director ( S Mohinder) is just as unknown, but the song is wonderful. Written by Rajinder Krishan, the lyrics are so nice to go through. The song is sung by Rafi and picturised on Raj Kapoor.

This song has got to be one of the most memorable songs sung by Rafi. I know that I say this for many Rafi songs, and I may not be too far off the mark while making such remarks. At least as far as this song is concerned, many people may agree with me.

Song-Tera kaam hai jalna parwaane (Paapi) (1953) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-S Mohinder

Tera kaam hai jalna parwaane
chaahe shama jale yaa naa jale
shama jale yaa naa jale

tu pankh jalaa le deewaane
chaahe shama jale yaa naa jale
shama jale yaa naa jale

ye dard muhabbat ka sahja
tu aag ke dariya me bah jaa
kahti hai jo duniya kahne de
tu jalte jalte ye kah ja ye kah ja
yoon jal marte hain deewane
yoon jal marte hain deewane
chaahe shama jale ya na jale
shama jale ya na jale
Tera kaam hai jalna parwaane
chaahe shama jale ya na jale
shama jale yaa naa jale

tera pyaar nahin hai harjaayi
tu saudaayi hai saudaayi
marne me hai shaan muhabbat ki
jeene me hai teri ruswaayi
marte nahin jalkar parwaane
marte nahin jalkar parwaane
chaahe shama jale ya na jale
shama jale ya na jale

Nice to see Raj Kapoor acting in a movie with music direction other than Shankar Jaikishan ;).

Raj Kapoor had acted in many movies with music directors other than S-J. Some of them I recall are :
Dhun (1953) – Madan Mohan
Jagate Raho (1956) – Salil Choudhary [R K Production]
Ab Dilli Dur Nahin (1957) – Dattaram [R K Production]
Dil Hi To Hai (1963) – Roshan
Phir Subah Hogi (1958) – Khayyam
Do Ustaad (1959) – O P Nayyar
Challiya (1960) – Kalyanji-Anandji

The video link in your blog is not available. Here is the new video link :

I was under impression that it was a sad song but looking at the video this does not seems to be so.

I think these link’s should work.
