Aaj ki raat mere dil ki salaami le le

on:Here is yet another Piano cum Party song that was almost a must in Bollywood movies of 1960s. The hero typically would sing a song seated on a piano kept near a big staircase. The big hall would be full of the invitees to the party. Except the main characters, others would be under strict orders not to make any movements.
The song is “aaj ki raat mere dil ki salaami le le” sung by Rafi and picturised on Dilip Kumar.
The songs posted in this blog may not reflect it, but Dilip Kumar was the biggest male actor of Bollywood for much of 1950s and 1960s and Rafi did most of the playback singing for him. Indeed, Rafi did most of the playback singing for most actors of those days.
Shakeel Badayuni was the lyricist while Naushad composed the music for this song from “Ram aur Shyam”. Waheeda Rahman plays the female lead who is supposed to look embarrassed and guilty throughout the song.
Song-Aaj ki raat mere dil ki salaami le le (Ram aur Shyam) (1967) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad
Lyrics
Ye raat jaise dulhan ban gayi chiraagon se
karoonga ujaala main dil ke daaghon se
aaj ki raat mere dil ki salaami le le
dil ki salaami le le
kal teri bazm se deewaana chala jaayega
shama rah jaayegi parwaana chala jaayega
aaj ki raat mere dil ki salaami le le
dil ki salaami le le
teri mahfil tere jalwe ho mubaarak tujhko
teri ulfat se nahin aaj bhi inkaar mujhe
tera maikhana salaamat rahe ae jaane wafa
muskutraa kar tu jara ek baar mujhe
phir tere pyaar ka mastaan chal jaayega
kal teri bazm se deewaana chala jaayega
shama rah jaayegi parwaana chala jaayega
aaj ki raat mere dil ki salaami le le
dil ki salaami le le
Maine chaaha ke bata doon main haqueeqat apni
tune lekin na mera raaz e muhabbat samjha
meri uljhan mere haalaat yahan tak pahunche
teri aankhon ne mere pyaar ko nafrat samjha
ab teri raah se bebaana chala jaayega
kal teri bazm se deewaana chala jaayega
shama rah jaayegi parwaana chala jaayega
aaj ki raat mere dil ki salaami le le
dil ki salaami le le
tu mera saath na de raahe muhabbat me sanam
chalte chalte main kisi raah pe mud jaaunga
kahkashaan chaand sitaare tere choomenge tere kadam
tere raste ki main ek dhool hoon ud jaaungaa
saath mere mera afsaana chala jaayega
kal teri bazm se deewaana chala jaayega
shama rah jaayegi parwaana chala jaayega
aaj ki raat mere dil ki salaami le le
dil ki salaami le le

Only Rafi saab can modulate his voice in such a way that the song seems divine to listen to.
