Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Chaand jaise mukhde pe

Posted on: March 15, 2009

The movie “Saawan Ko Aane Do” was a musical blockbuster, and its songs became very popular among its target audience, viz audience who watched non mainstream ( read Amitabh Bachchan kind of action movies) movies which were made on shoestring budget with unknown faces.

In fact, Rajshri productions broke the myth that movies sold because of big stars. Rajshree production movies had no stars, and in fact music was the star in their movies.

I have posted two songs from this movie and I can continue posting one great song after another from this movie, as the movie was full of such songs.

Here is one such song. This song “chand jaise mukhde pe bindiya sitaara” incidentally is a song where one can find the word “chaand” which had by now become rarer than “id ka chaand”.

Song-Chand jaise mukhde pe (Saawan Ko aane do) (1979) Singer-Yesudas, Lyrics-Purushottam “Pankaj”, MD-Rajkamal

Lyrics

sab tithiyan kaa chandrmaa, jo dekhaa chaaho aaj
dheere dheere ghoonghtaa sarkaavo sartaaj
ho ho ho ho

chaand jaise mukhde pe bindiyaa sitaaraa
chaand jaise mukhde pe bindiyaa sitaaraa
nahin bhoolegaa meri jaan ye sitaaraa wo sitaaraa
maanaa teri nazron mein main hoon ek aawaaraa ho aawaaraa
nahin bhoolegaa meri jaan ye aawaaraa, wo aawaaraa
chaand jaise mukhde pe bindiyaa sitaaraa
ho ho ho ho

saagar saagar moti milte, parwat parwat paaras
tan man aise bheeje jaise barse mahuye kaa ras
are kastoori ko khojtaa phirtaa hai ye banjaaraa ho banjaaraa
nahin bhoolegaa meri jaan ye banjaaraa wo banjaaraa
chand jaise mukhde pe bindiya sitaara
ho ho ho ho

kajraare chanchal nainon mein sooraj chaand kaa deraa
roop ke is paawan mandir mein hansaa kare baseraa
pyaase geeton ki gangaa kaa tu hi hai kinaaraa ho kinaaraa
nahin bhoolegaa meri jaan, ye kinaaraa wo kinaaraa
chaand jaise mukhde pe bindiyaa sitaaraa
nahin bhoolegaa meri jaan ye sitaaraa, wo sitaaraa
maanaa teri nazron mein main hoon ek aawaaraa ho aawaaraa
nahin bhoolegaa meri jaan ye aawaaraa, wo aawaaraa
chaand jaise mukhde pe bindiyaa sitaaraa
ho ho ho ho

Indeed the movie “Saawan Ko Aane Do” is greatly enriched by heart warming songs composed by relatively new comer Raj Kamal .Melodious songs sung by Jaspal Singh , Yesudas and Kalyani Mitra add to the beauty of its own . Lyricists of these songs are not well known personalities .
