Andhe jahaan ke andhe raaste jaayen to jaayen kahaan

on:I thought I had already posted this song. It is only when I checked up that I realised that I had posted two other songs from this movie, but not this one.
So here is this delightful song from Patita (1953). One can enjoy listening to this song, even when one is not aware which movie this song is from. And in fact, that is what has been the case with me till recently.
Of courrse, it always helps if you have more details about the song than just the name of the singer. So now I have the details. This song, sung by Talat Mahmood is written by Shailendra and the music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan. And this was a movie featuring Dev Anand and Usha Kiran, so this song is naturally picturised on Dev Anand.
Well, it has been pointed out that the song is picturised not on Dev Anand but on Agha. Trust me to confuse Dev Anand with Agha !
I have so far listened to the song casually, but when I started paring attention to the lyrics, I realised that the lyrics were written with great care. Shailendra’s words are sheer poetry. Talat Mahmood’s voice is as soothing as ever, even though it is a sad song. And Shankar Jaikishan’s music is just as soothing to the ears. This song is easily a timeless classic.

Song-Andhe jahaan ke andhe raaste (Patita) (1953)Singer-Talat Mahmood, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
andhe jahaan ke andhe raaste, jaayen to jaayen kahaan
andhe jahaan ke andhe raaste, jaayen to jaayen kahaan
duniyaa to duniyaa, tu bhi paraayaa, ham yahaan naa wahaan
duniyaa to duniyaa, tu bhi paraayaa, ham yahaan naa wahaan
jeene ki chaahat nahin, mar ke bhi raahat nahin
jeene ki chaahat nahin, mar ke bhi raahat nahin
is paar aansoo, us paar aahen, dil meraa bezubaan
is paar aansoo, us paar aahen, dil meraa bezubaan
andhe jahaan ke andhe raaste, jaayen to jaayen kahaan
ham ko na koyi bulaaye, naa koyi palken bichhaaye
ham ko na koyi bulaaye, naa koyi palken bichhaaye
ai gham ke maaron, manzil wahin hai, dam ye toote jahaan
ai gham ke maaron, manzil wahin hai, dam ye toote jahaan
andhe jahaan ke andhe raaste, jaayen to jaayen kahaan
aaghaaz ke din teraa anjaam tay ho chukaa
aaghaaz ke din teraa anjaam tay ho chukaa
jalte rahen hain, jalte rahenge, ye zameen aasmaan
jalte rahen hain, jalte rahenge, ye zameen aasmaan
andhe jahaan ke andhe raaste, jaayen to jaayen kahaan
duniyaa to duniyaa, tu bhi paraayaa, ham yahaan naa wahaan
andhe jahaan ke andhe raaste, jaayen to jaayen kahaan

The song was picturised on Aga, a great comedian of his time. However, in the background, the plight of the heroine after brutal rape and pregnancy as well as death of her father, she was completely devastated and thinking of suicide so her state of mind was also depicted through this song. The beauty of the song and it’s picturization is enhanced by this background narration of story. Furthermore, the lyricist, Shailendra was a real poet and he was invited to Bombay by none other than Raj Kapur after listening to his poetry.

This is definitely not Dev Anand. Looks more like Agha. Can someone confirm?
